Yokai of books[edit]
You were once human reading books and learning but taking it to a new level you've spent so long reading and studying that you're not human anymore but an entity that now lives off of written knowledge and the stories of others.
Physical Description[edit]
Most Yokai of books are usually not that different from their original self, with some exceptions most would think they are just knowledgeable humans.
History[edit]
The first Yokai of books was a human librarian who locked herself in library with nothing but the books inside and once she was done with all of the books in the library, she traveled the world in search of new literature.
Society[edit]
Most Yokai of books integrate themselves in human society, usually as librarians, pharmacist, and local enchanters just to name a few. All though most Yokai of books don't share 1 philosophy the one thing they all agree on is that they dislike being called Book Yokai since Book Yokai are more like Book mimics or Sentient Books to which they are not.
Yokai of books Names[edit]
Yokai of books usually keep their human name but in the rare occurrence of a Yokai of books is born they just use standard human names.
Yokai of books Traits[edit]
Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 2 and your Dexterity, Wisdom, or Charisma score increases by 1.
Age. Yokai of Books start at the age of when they first became a Yokai of Books and can live for up to 700 years while aging slower than humans
Alignment. There are a plethora of differently aligned Yokai of Books, but a majority are neutral
Size. You were originally human and have barely changed. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Yokai Nature. You are humanoid however a divine sense or similar spell or ability marks you as a fiend (Due to yokais being demonic in nature) but you're not affected by any other spells or abilites that effect fiends.
No book unturned. You can read all languages. (Can't speak or write)
Sharp mind. You are resistant to psychic damage, and you have advantage on Intelligence saving throws.
Reader Yokai. If you spend at least 4 hours reading during a long rest it counts at a long rest. You do not need to eat, drink, or sleep while read and you are also conscious during it.
Languages. Apart from No book unturned, you can write and speak common, infernal, and 1 other language of your choice.
Subraces[edit]
Knowledge Devourer[edit]
A rare number of Yokai of books with enough obsession for knowledge can become a Knowledge Devourer, they discard their sharp mind in exchange for the power to absorb knowledge from others.
Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 2 and Your Constitution, Dexterity, or Strength score increase by 1 (This overwrites the normal Ability score increase)
Knowledge eater (This replaces Sharp mind). If a creature is within 5ft of you, as an action you can make a melee attack that you can your wisdom modifier instead of strength, upon hit you deal 1d6 + Wis psychic damage ignoring resistances and heal the same amount. This feature does not work against constructs.
Yokai of grimoires[edit]
Unlike other Yokai of books you study a grimoire or Spell book to where you innately gained a basic understanding of magic
Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 2 (This overwrites both the normal Ability score increases)
Grimore's Knowledge (This replaces Sharp mind). You gain advantage on saving throws against spells, you can choose a cantrip from the wizard spell list that you can cast at will, and you can choose a level 1 Abjuration or Divination spell from wizard the spell list that you can cast once per long rest. (You cast these spells using your intelligence as the spell modifer).
