History[edit]
The yegul are sea-dwelling, amphibious eel people that live in the deep oceans of the material plane. The yegul are an evolutionary offshoot of the Merfolk, another sea-dwelling people. To escape the vicious clutches of the Merrow, a tribe of Merfolk escaped and hid in the deep oceans of the world. There they evolved and adapted to their new surroundings and eventually became the yegul.
Society[edit]
As a people, yegul are generally good at medicine and famous for their spices formed underwater. Yegul exist in small tribes in deep-sea oceans, commonly led by the oldest yegul in the tribe. A yegul will typically stick with its tribe, but there have been yegul who have left the tribe in order to explore the world and help people. They will typically make their dwellings in small undersea caverns and hovels. But a yegul tribe typically won't stay in one place for long and are known to migrate frequently in order to stay safe from other deep-sea threats. The yegul would much rather run away than engage in combat for they are peaceful people. Yet it is not uncommon that many yegul will fall into the clutches to the seas more violent inhabitants. They have befriended deep-sea jellyfish, turning them into their mounts and pets.
Yegul females also have very low birthrates. But the yegul have evolved in a way to both combat the low birthrates and the frequent deaths in order to preserve their race. When male yegul reach a certain age, over the next few months they will transition into the opposite gender and be able to produce offspring. Yegul females are also able to produce a mucus-milk like substance from their breasts in order to feed their offspring.
