By far the most widespread of the firebirds is the jackalbird (Genus Cynoheirax), which in addition to the Pakardiant species known locally as yakai (C. hylovenator) also has a species in the Southern Islands, a species in the forests of Arvel which has recently repopulated Qajar, a species in the northern forests of Ni'Khar, and a species in sothern Kairul, as well as possibly sixth species in the forests of Kaishel as well. The primary reason for this widespread distribution is the more efficient flight compared to other raptorial urvogels and a highly adaptable diet. They hunt a wide variety of game but their tendencies towards twilight or nighttime conditions means their only significant competition is owls, which due to this competitive pressure are quite rare in jackalbird ranges. Sibling groups of males especially may hunt in groups to bring down game and will often stay in close proximity to each other's territory, while females have a great wonderlust, traveling far before establishing a territory which is the primary cited reason for how they are so widespread. |
