Wyrmbound[edit]

Patron: Great Wyrm Dragons

A warlock who chooses the Dragon Wyrm as their patron makes a pact with an ancient, powerful dragon—either chromatic, metallic, or gem. This dragon, known for its immense greed and wisdom, bestows power upon the warlock in exchange for loyalty and service to its draconic ambitions. The warlock’s power is tied directly to their patron's desire for dominance, wealth, and expansion of their hoard. As their bond deepens, the warlock gains dragon-like abilities, and their magic twists to reflect their patron’s nature.

Patron Features[edit]

1st Level: Draconic Blessing[edit]

At 1st level, the bond with your dragon wyrm patron grants you the power to command draconic might. You gain the following features based on your dragon type:

  • Chromatic Dragon: You gain resistance to the damage type associated with your dragon's color (e.g., Red = Fire, Blue = Lightning, Green = Acid, White = Cold, Black = Acid).
  • Metallic Dragon: You gain advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened. Additionally, you can cast *Protection from Evil and Good* once per long rest without expending a spell slot.
  • Gem Dragon: You gain proficiency in Insight and can add your Charisma modifier to Wisdom (Insight) checks. Additionally, you can cast *Detect Thoughts* once per long rest without expending a spell slot.

6th Level: Draconic Hoard[edit]

Your patron's greed influences your magic, allowing you to draw from its vast hoard. You can conjure magical treasure to aid you. As a bonus action, you can summon one of the following effects, based on your dragon type, once per long rest:

  • Chromatic Dragon: You conjure a Dragon's Breath weapon (based on your dragon's color). Choose one of the following: Fire, Lightning, Acid, Cold, or Poison. Each creature in a 15-foot cone must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC or take 2d6 damage of the chosen type on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. The damage increases by 1d6 at 10th and 14th level.
  • Metallic Dragon: You conjure a golden shield of shimmering light. As a reaction when you are hit by an attack, you can grant yourself a +2 bonus to AC for that attack. You may use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1), regaining all uses after a long rest.
  • Gem Dragon: You conjure an ethereal gemstone that floats near you, granting you temporary insight. As a bonus action, choose one creature you can see within 30 feet. You gain advantage on your next attack roll or saving throw against that creature. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1), regaining all uses after a long rest.

10th Level: Hoard of Power[edit]

Your patron’s hoard now directly fuels your arcane abilities, based on your dragon type. When you roll damage for a warlock spell that deals damage, you can add extra damage equal to your Charisma modifier. Additionally, you can use a bonus action to gain temporary hit points equal to your warlock level + your Charisma modifier. You can use this feature once per short or long rest.

14th Level: Draconic Ascension[edit]

At 14th level, you fully embrace the power of your dragon wyrm patron, gaining the following benefits:

  • Chromatic Dragon: You can use your action to unleash a devastating breath weapon, as per the *Dragon's Breath* feature, but with a 60-foot cone and dealing 6d6 damage of your dragon's color. Creatures caught in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC, taking full damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. You can use this ability once per long rest.
  • Metallic Dragon: You grow ethereal dragon wings, granting you a flying speed equal to your movement speed. In addition, whenever you cast a spell that deals damage, you can choose to deal additional radiant damage equal to half your warlock level (rounded down).
  • Gem Dragon: You gain telepathy with any creature within 60 feet of you, allowing you to communicate without words. In addition, you can cast *Telekinesis* at will, without expending a spell slot, but you must finish a short rest before you can use it again.

Roleplaying the Dragon Wyrm Patron[edit]

A Dragon Wyrm Patron is a powerful and ancient creature, whose desire to expand its hoard and domain influences its relationship with the warlock. The patron might offer its power with the understanding that the warlock must serve its goals—whether through acquiring wealth, hoarding magical knowledge, or spreading terror and dominance across the land. As the warlock gains power, they are expected to contribute to the expansion of the patron's hoard—through treasure, magical artifacts, or even the occasional sacrifice.

Potential Quests and Objectives:[edit]

  • Recovering ancient draconic artifacts or hoards for your patron.
  • Expanding the influence of the patron by conquering lands or cities.
  • Engaging in politics or manipulation to align others with your patron's interests.
