Wodekin[edit]

Personality[edit]

Wodekin (pronounced VOde-kin) are the friendly, but reclusive cousins to both elves and giants. Like their forest giant ancestors wodekin
stand heads above the other humanoids of the forest. Like their other elven cousins, they are masters of forestry and magic.

Physical Description[edit]

Wodekin are considered giants by their smaller elven kin. With good reason as the average wodekin stands between 7 and 10 feet tall. Like their elven cousins they are lithe and rarely weight more than 400 pounds.

Wodekin complexion tend to be that of their forest home. Skin color ranges from the green of the summer grass the the orange of the autumn leaves with many browns and reds in between. Eye color tends towards jewel tones, in addition to green, blue and purple common to elves, it is not strange to see wodekin with red and even all black eyes.

Wodekin hair is usually (besides their height) their most notable feature. While a minority of wodekin have normal hair like that of their elven cousins, some have manes and mohawks like those of wild animals and others hair grows plant-like (bushy or mossy beards, vines for hair).

Relations[edit]

Among other elves wodekin act somethign like wood elves, among other races their view tend more like those of the wild elves. Wodekin live closer to nature than all but the wild eves and this cultural distance creates rifts just as it does with the wild elves. More civilized elves generally view the wodekins laconic philosophy to be childish, leading to their name (wodekin is the Common name that translates to the elven 'forest children'). In fact, wodekin are deeper than the mineral pools of the Blue Mountains and their cultural acceptance of adversity springs from a sort of taoist view of the world. Unlike their high elf cousins who have become culturally indistinct from their human neighbors, wodekin generally see no need in "converting" other cultures, be the human, elven or orcish. This often leads more zealous adventurers to think that wodekin have few strong opinions. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Wodekin hate those who make war on nature.

Alignment[edit]

Like elves, wodekin tend towards chaos and good.

Lands[edit]

Wodekin build their villages in groves of the eldest trees in the heart of their forested lands. Though they live in may places their avorites are the forested hills and mountians near other elves as well as giantfolk.

Religion[edit]

typical wood elven dieties. obad-hai, elhonna, etc

Language[edit]

Wodekin are fluent in the languages of their ancestors, as well as those of their fellow forest creatures.

Names[edit]

Wodekin are given dozens of names throughout their life. Some identify strongly with one and hold onto it as a primary name, other wodekin will literally go by different names throughout the day, depending on what activity they are participating in.

Racial Traits[edit]

  • +6 Strength, -2 Intellegence +2 Wisdom: Tall and strong; the wodekin are presumed to be naive and simpleminded by their fellow elves.
  • Humanoid (Elven) subtype: Giant. Wodekin are descended from both elves and giants and count as both for determining spell-like effects.
  • Medium size. Despite their great height, due to their light frames wodekin take no penalties to their stealth or AC.
  • Wodekin base land speed is 40 feet, their long legs carry them faster than smaller races.: Wodekin often live in tree villages and can climb at half their base speed.
  • Space: 5; Reach: 10
  • Powerful Build: The physical stature of wodekin lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category larger. Whenever a wodekin is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the wodekin is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him. A wodekin is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature’s special attacks based on size (such as improved grab or swallow whole) can affect him. A wodekin can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty. However, due to their unique physiques, wodekin must have armor custom made, the price of which is equvilant to that of large armor. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject’s size category.
  • Improved Low-Light Vision: A wodekin can see twice as far as an elf in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. He retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
  • Weapon Proficiency: Wodekin may treat bolas and nets as martial weapons, rather than exotic weapons
  • Alternatly wodekin receive the Martial Weapon Proficiency feats for the longsword, kukri, longbow (including composite longbow), and shortbow (including composite shortbow) as bonus feats .
  • +2 racial bonus on Listen, Search and Spot checks. A wodekin who merely passes within 5 feet of a secret or concealed door is entitled to a Search check to notice it as if she were actively looking for it.
  • +1 racial bonus to attacks with thrown weapons and bows.
