Wild Shape Alternate Progression (5e Class Feature)
From D&D Wiki
Wild Shape Alternate Progression[edit]
2nd-level optional feature (enhances Wild Shape)
The standard progression of druid wild shape assumes that the druid starts on land, with wild shape options restricted to creatures with no swimming or flying speed. However, what if you're playing a triton druid and the game starts under the sea? Land-based wild shapes make no sense.
Here is the following solution: if you're playing a character with a swimming speed, you can replace the Beast Shapes table with the following table when you gain access to the Wild Shape feature.
Level | Max. CR | Limitations | Example |
---|---|---|---|
2nd | 1/4 | No flying speed, must have a walking speed of 5 ft. or less | Octopus |
4th | 1/2 | No flying speed | Crocodile |
8th | 1 | — | Giant eagle |
