Way of the Ultimate Truth (Way of Kyokushin)[edit]

Monk Subclass

The Ultimate Truth

Is what we seek

With our head low,

Our eyes high

And our mouths shut.

Modesty, Ambition, Serenity, Perseverance.

Monks who follow the tradition of the ultimate truth, also known as Kyokushin Monks, find in the pursuit of mastery of martial arts a path to self knowledge. Ultimate truth monks perfect both body and spirit, and submit themselves to insurmountable amount of hardship and pain, in order to both condition their bodies and test the strength in their spirits. The ultimate truth is the transcendence of perceived physical limitations trough hard training, to attain the perfection of body and soul.

The ultimate truth style is a painful and brutal one. Alongside with basic training of techniques, sequence of movements called forms and sparring - all of them common in most monastic traditions - they also undergo a painful process of body hardening, were they are hit multiple times, and tireless hit countless objects, in order to build pain tolerance and improve bone density. They also build their strength and constitution trough intense conditioning training, carrying their training partners while running trough mountain trails, or by lifting heavy rocks. Masters of this style are capable of wrestling bulls and other large animals

The ultimate test of might comes in the form of a fight against a hundred other monks from the Ultimate Truth. The goal of this hundred monk fight is not to win every single fighter, but to endure a hundred fights in a row, as the ultimate proof of endurance of body, bravery of heart and strength of spirit.

Ambition

Your journey comes with harsh winds and swift obstacles, don't just strike fast, strike hard. Starting at 3rd level, you can add your Wisdom modifier to any Strength or Constitution check you make.

You also can add your Strength modifier as a bonus to the damage rolls of your unarmed strikes.

Modesty

Keep your head low, your strength is not your pride and your pride is your own, the truth lies within oneself, and oneself is made by others. At 3rd level, you gain proficiency in the Insight skill.

Perseverance

Avoiding everything that stunts growth and breaking everything in your way will cause you to stray, take in more experiences, find more truth in the world. At 6th level, you gain proficiency in Athletics.

In addition, your hit point maximum increases by an amount equal to twice your monk level when you gain this feature. Whenever you gain a level thereafter, your hit point maximum increases by an additional 2 hit points.

Serenity

Your body is strong, but your mind is not, a still mind makes an iron body. At 11th level, add your Strength modifier to you AC (max +2) along with your Unarmored Defense, as long as you aren't wearing armor or shield and aren't frightened or charmed.

Truth

All living things like the darkness their cave provides after they're burned by the light of the sun, but we bathe in the sun and move its radiance wherever we go. At 17th level, you are no longer able to tell a lie, and therefore unable to make Charisma (Deception) skill checks, in doing so whenever you make an unarmed strike, you may take a -5 to your attack roll before your DM declares whether or not your attack hits to add either an extra martial arts die to your damage, a +5 to your next attack roll, or force them to make a Wisdom saving throw (Ki-save DC) or become shell-shocked, becoming frightened and blinded as long as you're within line of sight.
