Way of the Sun Soul Rework[edit]
Monk Subclass
This is a reworked homebrew version of the official Sun Soul monk subclass found in the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide and Xanathar's Guide to Everything by WOTC.
- Radiant Bolt
Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, you may channel your Ki into bursts of pure plasma. You may use an action to make a ranged spell attack against a creature within 60 feet of you. You are proficient with this attack, and you add your Wisdom modifier to its attack and damage rolls. On a hit, the attack deals radiant damage equal to your Martial Arts die (as shown in the Martial Arts column of the Monk table).
You may also spend your Ki points to make additional attacks in this way on your turn. You make one extra Radiant Bolt attack for each Ki point you spend on the first attack, up to a maximum of 3.
When you gain the Extra Attack feature, this special attack can be used for any of the attacks you make as part of the Attack action.
- Corona
At 6th level, your body becomes a conduit for the unmatched power of the sun. As a bonus action you may activate your Corona, causing your body to shed bright light in a 15-foot radius sphere and dim light for an additional 15 feet. This light counts as sunlight. Your Corona lasts for a minute, or until you dismiss it with a bonus action. For the duration, you are resistant to radiant damage and all melee attacks made by you against creatures in the bright light radius of your Corona deal additional radiant damage equal to your Wisdom modifier. You may use this ability a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus.
- Solar Flare
When you reach 11th level, you can unleash a blinding attack on your foes. You may use an action to create a ball of light and hurl it at a point within 150 feet of you. All creatures within a 15-foot radius of the ball of light must succeed on a Constitution saving throw against your Ki save DC or take 2 Martial Arts die of radiant damage and be blinded for a number of rounds equal to your proficiency bonus. If they succeed, they take half the damage and are not blinded. A creature doesn't need to make the save if the creature is behind total cover that is opaque.
You can increase the damage of the attack by spending Ki points. Each point you spend, up to a maximum of 3, increases the damage by 1 Martial Arts die.
- Supernova
At 17th level, you have become an avatar for the light of dawn. The bright light radius of your Corona is extended to 30 feet. Also, while your Corona is active, you are immune to radiant damage and you gain a flight speed equal to double your movement speed. All hostile creatures who start their turn in the bright light radius of your Corona must make a Constitution save with a DC equal to 10 + your Wisdom modifier or take radiant damage equal to your monk level. On a successful save, they take half damage.
