Way of the Storm (5e Subclass)
Way of the Storm[edit]
[1] by Bailey Butel |
Monks who learn this path gain the ability to summon lighting and create thunderous roars with their body and control over their Ki.
- Cantrips
Starting at 3rd level, you learn the following cantrips: shocking grasp, Booming Blade and lighting lure. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
Furthermore, when casting any of these cantrips, you can still use your bonus action to make an unarmed strike. You can't use this bonus action to make a Flurry of Blows, as normal.
- Thunderous Blows
Also at 3rd level, you learn how to put the thunderous roar of storms behind your punches and kicks as an ability. You may spend 1 ki point to deal an additional +1 damage until the start of your next turn. At 11th level, you can spend additional ki points up to a maximum of your wisdom modifier and the base amount of damage done increases by 1. The damage increases by 1 per ki point spent. You can choose to deal the following damage types with your Thunderous Blows: bludgeoning, lightning or thunder damage.
In addition, you become as fast as lightning, and gain 10 feet of additional movement.
- Storm’s Fury
At 6th level you gain access to spellcraft. You may spend a number of ki points listed on the table bellow to cast your spells, instead of gaining spell slots. See chapter 10 for general rules of spellcasting. To cast these spells, you use its casting time and other rules, but you don't need to provide the material components for it. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
You can spend additional ki points to increase the level a spell you cast. The Spell's level increases by 1 for each additional ki point spent. You can only spend an additional maximum amount of ki points up to half your proficiency bonus (rounded down). Starting at 17th level, you can choose one of these spells to cast as a 9th level spell for 12 ki points. When you do this, you can't do it again until you finish a long rest.
At 11th level, you learn how to meld your lightning into the ki of others. When you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack, you can spend 3 ki points to attempt a paralyzing strike. The target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or be paralyzed until the end of your next turn. If this creature is wearing metal armor, the creature makes this roll with disadvantage. In addition, you can cast the haste spell on yourself, and without spend ki points or using material components. Once you do this, you can't do it again until you finish a long rest or expend 4 ki points to do so again.
Starting at 17th level, you can spend up to your maximum amount of additional ki points to create an aura of lightning around you. Up to five creatures you designate within 15 feet of you suffer damage equal to 1d10 for each 2 ki points spent on a failed Dexterity saving throw, or half as much damage on a successful one. Additionally, for 1 minute, any creature that starts or end its turn within 10 feet of you suffers 1d10 of lighting damage. If you spent 10 or more Ki points you gain the effects of Tenser's Transformation with the damage type being lightning or thunder instead of force. If you spend 20 ki points, this effect lasts 10 minutes and the damage caused to any creature that start or end its turn within the area increases to 2d10 lightning damage. You must complete a long rest to use this ability again. Back to Main Page → 5e Homebrew → Character Options → Subclasses |
