Way of the Priest[edit]
A monk that is bestowed might from a divine being, much like a cleric and a paladin, is called a priest. Using their body as a holy symbol and spreading the word of their god with the wisdom only a monk could obtain.
- Theology
When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in the Religion skill. In addition, you learn one cantrip from the cleric spell list. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this cantrip.
- Divine Power
Starting at 3rd level, you can use your ki to cast divine spells. Whenever you finish a long rest, you can prepare a number of spells from the Cleric spell list equal to half your level in this class (rounded down) + your Wisdom modifier.
You can cast your prepared spells by spending a number of ki points equal to the level of the spell. Once you use your ki to cast spells, you can't do it again until you finish a short or a long rest. You can cast two spells between rests at 5th level, three spells at 11th level and finally four spells between rests at 17th level.
The maximum level of the spells you can cast,is shown bellow:
- 3rd level: 1st-level spells
- 5th level: 2nd-level spells
- 9th level: 3rd-level spells
- 13th level: 4th-level spells
- 17th level: 5th-level spells
When you cast a spell, Wisdom is your spellcasting ability. You calculate your spell attack bonus and spell save DC in the following manners:
- Spell Save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier
- Spell Attack Bonus= your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier
- Harness Divine Power
Starting at 6th level, you can use your bonus action to touch your holy symbol and harness the power of your god to regain a number of ki points equal to half your proficiency bonus (rounded up).
Once you use this ability, you can't use it again until you finish a short or a long rest.
- Holy Flurry
Starting at 11th level, you learn how to combine your divine magic with your martial arts. Whenever you cast a spell using your ki as an action, you can make two unarmed strikes using your bonus action.
In addition, whenever you use your ki to cast a spell using your bonus action, you can make one unarmed strike as part of the same bonus action.
- Divine Intervention
At 17th level, you can touch your holy symbol to call upon your god for a direct intervention as an action. That intervention come in a form of a spell of 6th level or lower from the Cleric spell list. If the spell requires a material component with a cost in gp, your divine intervention don't need one.
Once you use this ability, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
- Optional Rule
You can choose to allow a bit more of variety by allowing this monk to also choose a divine domain. Doing so increase the number of prepared spells by adding the domain spells.
In addition, this monk can spend the Harness Divine Power feature to use the 2nd-level channel divinity from its chosen domain.
