Way of the Harbinger[edit]

Monk Subclass

Generally, monks are never bound into service of a particular entity. Whether it be god, king, or country, they are free agents, who practice their skills without quotas or expectations beyond those of their teachers. Occasionally, some serve gods. For whatever ends it may be, they hoist up the image of their deity, and are empowered by them. But it is a rare few, who serve a patron.

Those who follow the Way of the Harbinger are bound in service to a particular patron, a vestige, or otherwise. While most do this to further their studies, they are still called upon by these patrons for certain duties. To what ends are up to them, as they are commonly only minor servants, taking even less of their power than a true warlock. Few are willing to put the power granted on the line, however.

Your start into the service of a patron has granted you some minor spellcasting capabilities. Starting at 3rd level, you gain one Pact Boon, and learn two Warlock cantrips. When casting them through this subclass, you use Wisdom as your casting modifier. Additionally, choose one Otherwordly Patron. You can cast their pact spells at their lowest level, instead using an amount of Ki points as shown. Your monk level must at least be 5th, 7th, or 9th to cast 3rd, 4th, and 5th level spells from these lists, respectively.

Martial Magic

Starting at 3rd level, when you use your action to cast a cantrip, you may make one weapon attack or unarmed strike as a bonus action.

Sage’s Invocations

Your studies have further enhanced your magical powers. Starting at 6th level, you learn two eldritch invocations, of those available to the warlock. For the purpose of prerequisites for these invocations, you count as a 6th level warlock, and any invocation which would rely on your Charisma modifier instead uses your Wisdom modifier.

Whenever you gain a level in monk, you may replace one invocation with another invocation you qualify for.

You learn an additional invocation at 17th level.

Patron's Impact

Also at 6th level, your study of your chosen entity has granted you a tiny insight into their power. You one of the 1st level feature granted by the Otherwordly Patron chosen at 3rd level. If they have multiple 1st level features (Such as The Hexblade Patron), you may choose to gain either one or both. Any feature which would rely on your Charisma modifier instead uses your Wisdom modifier.

Patron’s Influence

While you are no warlock, the being you gain power from has granted you a small gift. Starting at 11th level, you gain the 10th level feature granted by the Otherwordly Patron chosen at 3rd level. Any feature which would rely on your Charisma modifier instead uses your Wisdom modifier.

Passing of Knowledge

At 17th level, you gain the following benefits.

  • You can choose another Otherworldy Patron. You can cast spells from their spell list as well, as per Eldritch Knowledge.
  • Casting any 1st level spell granted by Otherwordly Patron no longer costs Ki.
  • For the purposes of Sage’s Invocation, you now count as an 15th level warlock.
