Way of the Elemental Fist (5e Subclass)
Way of the Elemental Fist[edit]
Monk Subclass
The way of the elemental fist is only attainable by those who have spent time in careful meditation considering the elements as they occur in nature. Having come to understand these elements in their primal form, monks can uniquely channel their ki, bending to their will the elements to which their body and soul have become closely attuned.
- Elemental Fist.
When you choose this subclass, you gain control of one element of your choice. The elements are as follows: Fire, Cold (Ice), Lightning, Bludgeoning (Earth), Force (Water), Slashing (Air), Poison, Thunder, Radiant (Light), and Necrotic (Darkness). For 1 Ki Point, you can activate the Elemental Fist, and if there is any presence of your element within 15 feet, you can use your action to manipulate it. Once manipulated, the element has a usable distance of 100 feet. If your element is given a physical form, this form lasts until you dismiss it, or in the case of attacks, until the attack is cast.
Weaponizing your element requires you to make an attack roll based on whether the attack is melee or ranged. Strength or Dexterity can be used for your attacking roll, and on a successful hit, deal 1d8 of your elemental damage. This damage increases by 1d8 at 6th, 10th, 15th, and 20th levels.
- Elemental Wall.
At 6th level, you gain the ability to summon a wall of your element. This wall is 30 feet long, 20 feet high, and does 3d6 of your elemental damage when you walk through it. The Elemental Fist must be active to have this effect.
- Elemental Essence.
At 11th level, you gain the ability to channel your element in a manner not unlike a caster commands magic. For 3 Ki Points, you may cast a spell determined by your chosen element as an Action. The spells are as follows: Fireball (Fire), Sleet Storm (Ice), Lightning Bolt (Lightning), Erupting Earth (Earth), Tidal Wave (Water), Fly (Air), Gaseous Form (Poison), Thunder Step (Thunder), Daylight (Light), and Darkness (Darkness). Your Spell Save DC is 8 + WIS + Proficiency Bonus.
- Elemental Master.
At 17th level, you have become an elemental master. You gain the ability to control a second element and may now attack with both at once, dealing extra damage from both elements instead of just one. At the same time, you gain the Elemental Essence spell associated with your second element.
Additionally, you have learned to use the elements at your command to restore damage done to your body. For 5 Ki Points, if an instance of your element - either naturally occurring or maliciously used - were to do you harm, you can use your Reaction to consume the element, causing it to heal you for the rolled damage instead.
