Way of the Dreadful Fist[edit]
Monastic Tradition
Master of Fear by Andrii Prymak |
Monks who follow the tradition of the dreadful fist, also known as Masters of Fear, use dread and terror as weapons to break their enemies will and win a battle before it even starts. They are specialized in using mundane intimidation tactics, but they also can awaken a sense of dread in their foes by tainting the ki of their opponents with fear. These monks are infamous for being able to awaken the worst nightmares of their opponents trough a single touch.
- Master of Fear
At 3rd, you gain proficiency in the Intimidation skill, and can add twice your proficiency bonus to your Intimidation checks. You can also use your Wisdom modifier, instead of Charisma, whenever you make an Intimidation check.
In addition, you can replicate the effects of certain spells. The spell doesn't require any components. You can use this feature to cast spells a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, being unable to do so again until you finish a long rest. You can spend a number of ki points equal to the level of the spell to cast the following spells at the levels shown bellow:
Monk Level | Spells |
---|---|
3rd | cause fear |
6th | phantasmal force |
11th | fear |
17th | phantasmal killer |
- Dreadful Technique
At 3rd level, you can use your ki to awaken fear in the hearts of your opponents. You learn the following techniques:
- Stroke of Fear. You inspire an irrational sense of dread on a creature you hit with one of your attacks granted by your flurry of blows. When you do so, that creature is frightened until the end of your next turn.
- Frightening Presence. Your presence exude an aura of fear. When you take the Patient Defense, you can use an Action to force each creature of your choice in a 30 foot radius to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, a creature becomes frightened of you until the end of your next turn.
- Gaze of Terror
At 6th level, whenever a creature you can see within 120 feet succeeds on a saving throw against the frightened condition imposed by you, you can use your reaction to force a different creature you can see within 120 feet to make a Wisdom saving throw against your Ki save DC. If the target fails, it is frightened by you for 1 minute. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a successful save.
In addition, you become immune to the frightened condition.
- Psychic Touch
At 11th level, a sense of self doubt and pure dread invade the hearts of creatures attacked by you. Whenever you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you cause additional psychic damage equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1).
- Paralyzing Fear
At 17th level, whenever you hit a creature frightened by you with an unarmed strike, you cause additional psychic damage equal to half your monk level, and that creature's movement speed is reduced to 0.
