Way of the Dragon Blade (5e Subclass)
Way of the Dragon Blade[edit]
Monastic Tradition
Monks who follow the dragon blade tradition developed a fighting style inspired by the movement and ferocity of dragons. Instead of brute force and strength, a Dragon Blade values their acrobatic skill and natural balance, and strikes with the grace and speed of a dragon flying on the wind. They are nimble and elusive; a master Dragon Blade's foes fail to land even a single blow against them, all the while the Dragon Blade dances around their foes, waiting for the most opportune moment to strike.
- Bonus Proficiencies
When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in the Intimidation and your choice between Acrobatics or Athletics skills, and you learn how to speak, read and write in draconic.
- Dragon Claws
Starting at 3rd level, you wield a pair of light weapons, mimicking the claws of dragons. Once per turn when you take the Attack action while wielding a pair of monk weapons that have the light property, and make an attack against a creature, you can spend 1 ki point to two attacks, instead of one. Both attacks must be made against the same target.
- Aerial Strike
Also at 3rd level, you can soar trough the air, falling from the sky as a dragon attacking its prey. You can use your bonus action and spend 1 ki point to gain a flying speed equal to your movement speed, lasting until the end of your current turn.
When you use your Flurry of Blows, you can forgo one of your attacks made as part of that action to use your Aerial Strike instead.
- Sweeping Tail
At 6th level, your kicks have the potency of a dragon's tail. Once per turn, when you hit a creature with one of your attacks granted by your Flurry of Blows, you can attempt to use a stunning strike against that creature without spending ki.
In addition, once per turn when you use your Aerial Strike and end your turn within 5 feet of a hostile creature, you can use your reaction to deliver a powerful kick. Make an unarmed strike against that creature and , on a hit, the creature is pushed 10 feet back.
- Fury of Dragons
At 11th level, you can unleash the full power of a dragon's wrath. You no longer need to spend ki points to use your Dragon's Claw. You still can't use it more than once per turn.
In addition, when you use your Flurry of Blows, you can forgo one of your attacks to use your Aerial Strike without spending ki.
- Breath of Dragons
When you reach the 17th level, you can use your ki to channel elemental power, unleashing the force of the dragon's breath. As an action, you can spend 5 ki points and choose one of the following damage types: acid, cold, fire, lighting or poison. All creatures in a 60-foot radius must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw, or take 6d10 damage from the chosen type.
In addition, if you hit a target twice on the same turn with a pair of monk weapons, you can use this ability as a bonus action, and the target automatically fails the saving throw.
