Body beyond the body[edit]
Monk Subclass
While many monasteries teach the practice of projecting one’s spirit into the astral realm, a certain few teach the practice of projecting one’s spirit to the material world. Practitioners of this tradition believe themselves never outnumbered and never alone. They seek to teach the importance of unity with others and one’s self.
- Physicality of spirit
As you start down this path you start to be able to project a splinter of your spirit into the material world. Starting at 3rd level you can spend a ki point as an action or when you hit with an attack to create a projection in an empty space within 15ft of you. The projection shares all of your statistics, ongoing effects, appearance, and voice except it has no hit points. Instead, whenever the projection is hit with an attack or fails a saving throw it is destroyed. During your turn you may move a projection up to its speed and whenever you make an attack or take an action, bonus action, or reaction you may have the projection do it instead. Whenever an effect happens at the start or end of a turn, you may choose to apply that effect to yourself or a projection. All healing applied to projections is applied to you instead. Whenever a projection uses an item it is carrying, it uses the item in your inventory. Projections cannot provide flanking. You may have up to two projections at one time, and any projection created will disappear after one minute or when dismissed at any time.
- Self sacrifice
Your spirit will protect your main body from harm. Starting at 3rd level you can perceive through your projection’s senses. When you are hit by an attack, you may use your reaction to redirect the attack to a projection within 5 feet of you instead.
- Grasp of spirit
A honed body and spirit can outperform those with only brawn. Starting at 3rd level you may use Dexterity instead of strength when performing an athletics check when attempting to grapple a creature. You gain proficiency with the athletics skill, or double your proficiency bonus on athletics checks if you are already proficient.
- Outnumber and outperform
With great understanding, strength is only as strong as one’s will. Starting at 6th level you or a projection can grapple a creature of any size without penalty, requiring a projection for each size category above large to be within 5ft of the target creature. You or a projection can grapple an already grappled creature, causing the creature to be restrained until either grapple ends. You can have up to three projections.
- Self projection
Having reached further mastery of your projection, the line between yourself and your spirit starts to blur. Starting at 13th level as part of your moment on your turn, you may swap places with any projection. You can have up to five projections. Additionally your projections can also last up to 1 hour.
- One man army
No one body could ever contain your full spirit, and having reached the mastery of your own spirit, many possibilities are unlocked to you. At 17th level your projections have unlimited duration and you can maintain up to seven projections at once. When you take the attack action each of your projections can also take an attack action.
