Monk Subclass

Monks are known for wielding simple weapons in combat. For those following this tradition, there is nothing less simple than the Axe. More than simply a club or a blade on a stick, the Axe is a weapon that has defined cultures, and has far more uses than a sword or a mace. Perhaps you are an overzealous dwarf, a weapon historian or an adventurer who favors a particular weapon. Regardless, with your Axe and your fists, there is no problem you can't beat, break or cleave.

Scion of the Axe

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you have devoted yourself to all things axe. You gain proficiency in handaxes, battleaxes, greataxes and halberds if you have not already, and they are counted as Monk Weapons for you.

Martial Adept

At 3rd level, you have devoting yourself to martial training with your axe. Choose one Fighting Style from the Fighter class. You gain the benefits of this fighting style while you are wielding one of the weapons listed in your Scion of the Axe.

Unarmored Bulwark (Optional)

Also at 3rd level, your focus can lean either towards celerity or raw strength. When unarmored, your AC is equal to 10 + your Constitution modifier + your Strength modifier. You may choose to use this in place of your Unarmored Defense feature.

Fell-Handed

At 6th level, attacks with axes (The weapons listed in your Scion of the Axe feature) are counted as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.

In addition, you gain +1 to attack and damage rolls with these weapons. This bonus increases at 11th level (+2) and 17th level (+3).

Maul

Also at 6th level, your revelry in bloodshed with your axe can fuel your vitality. When you reduce a creature to 0 hit points with one of the weapons listed in your Scion of the Axe feature, you may spend 1 ki point to roll your martial die. You regain hit points equal to the number rolled + your Constitution modifier. You may not use this feature if you have no ki points remaining.

Onslaught

At 11th level, you may choose to make attacks with one of the weapons listed in your Scion of the Axe feature in place of unarmed strikes when taking the Flurry of Blows bonus action.

Better Than One

Also at 11th level, your devotion to axes has resulted in the ability to wield weapons in unorthodox manners. Weapons listed in your Scion of the Axe that have the Two-Handed property instead gain the Versatile Property, the damage dice being reduced when wielded in one hand (For example, a greataxe's damage die would be reduced from 1d12 to 1d10 when used in one hand). Only you gain this benefit when using these weapons.

Indomitable Accuracy

At 17th level, your muscle memory with axes is so great you almost never miss. When making an attack with one of the weapons listed in your Scion of the Axe feature, if your total for your attack roll was lower than your ability score used to make the attack (Strength or Dexterity), you may use that score in place of the total.

Focus on the Fight

Also 17th level, your devotion to your axe can fuel your Ki. As an action you may focus on your Axe (One of the weapons listed in your Scion of the Axe feature) to fuel your zeal for battle. You then regain 1 Ki point.

Perfect Self (Optional)

Replaces Perfect Self class feature
Your devotion to your axe has made you all the stronger. Your Strength or Dexterity and your Constitution or Wisdom ability scores increase by 2, as do your maximums for those scores.

Design Note: If permitted by your DM, you may change the variety of weapon used by this feature, changing it into Way of the Blade/Spear/Hammer etc. Work with your DM to decide which form you wish for this subclass to take, and what weapons would fall under the chosen category.
