Way of the Adaptive Spirit[edit]

Monk Subclass

Monks who follow the Way of the Adaptive Spirit are attuned to the ebb and flow of combat. They draw strength from their opponents, learning from their techniques and adapting to overcome challenges. As they face different foes, their abilities evolve, making them stronger over time.

Adapted Body

Starting a 3rd level, your body has adapted and evolved through many fights. You gain the following benefits:

  • You gain an additional 6 hit points and then an additional 2 for every level up in this class
  • While not wearing armor your AC increases by 2
  • You roll 1d6 for your unarmed damage this becomes 1d8 at 5th level, at 11th level 1d10 and at 17th level 1d12

Starting at 3rd level, you gain the ability to read your opponent's movements and adapt your defense accordingly. Whenever you are hit by an attack, you can spend 1 ki point as a reaction to gain a bonus to your AC equal to your Wisdom modifier until the end of your next turn.

  • When you choose this subclass, you gain the ability to observe your opponents keenly. As a reaction, after an enemy makes an attack roll against you or an ally within 60 feet, you can spend 1 ki point to gain insight into their fighting style.
  • You learn one of the following benefits based on the type of attack:
    • Melee Attack: Your unarmed strikes gain a +1 bonus to hit and damage rolls (to a maximum of +5)
    • Ranged Attack: You gain advantage on your next Dexterity saving throw against this opponent’s ranged attacks.
    • Spell Attack: You have advantage on your next saving throw against this opponent’s spells.
  • You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1), and you regain expended uses after a short rest.

  • Your body adapts to the damage you receive. Whenever you take damage from an opponent’s attack, you gain temporary hit points equal to 5 + your Wisdom modifier. These temporary hit points last for 1 minute.
