Way of Fire (5e Subclass)

Way of Fire[edit]
Monk Subclass
Most monks who harness nature wield the elements in harmony. Most monks use the elements to explore the forces of the universe, or to defend those who cannot defend themselves.
On the other hand, some monks just want to watch the world burn.
- Inner Fire
Starting at 3rd level, you have developed the ability to create and wield fire using your own Ki. You may cast fire bolt without expending any Ki points, and may cast Kagerou by expending 2 ki points. You may use Kagerou as a reaction against melee attacks as well as ranged attacks.
At 6th level, you may cast scorching ray by expending 3 ki points. At 11th level, you may cast fireball by expending 4 ki points. At 17th level, you may cast Pyre Siphon by expending 5 ki points. You may upcast your spells by expending the equivalent ki points (Cast Kagerou at 3rd level by expending 4 ki points). You must know the spell of the equivalent level before you may upcast to that level.
- Burning Fists
Also at 3rd level, you may unleash the fury of fire in your strikes. Attacks with your Unarmed Strikes deal an additional 1d4 fire damage. This increases to 1d6 at 5th level, 1d8 at 11th level and 1d10 at 17th level.
Additionally, over the course of a short rest, you may choose to channel flames into one Monk Weapon to turn it into your Burning Weapon. Upon completion of the short rest, the weapon gains the following benefits:
- You cannot be disarmed of the weapon, may summon it to your hand as a bonus action, and it returns to your hand when thrown. If the weapon does not have the thrown property, it gains a thrown range of 20/60 ft.
- Any creature other than you takes fire damage equal to your Wisdom modifier at the start and end of their turn if they are holding the weapon.
- When making the attack action, you may expend a number of ki points to deal additional fire damage. For every Ki point spend, the target takes 1 roll of your martial arts die in fire damage.
- Fire in the Soul
At 6th level, you gain resistance to fire damage. In addition, you attacks and spells ignore resistance to fire damage.
- Stoked
At 11th level, you may add your Wisdom and Dexterity modifiers to initiative checks, as well as all fire damamge you deal. In addition, you may cast fire bolt in place of one of your unarmed strikes on your turn.
- Fire Within
At 17th level, you gain immunity to fire damage, and treat immunity to fire damage as resistance. In addition, may now cast fire bolt in place of any number of unarmed strikes on your turn, and cast your Inner Fire spells as a bonus action by expending an extra ki point.
