Warpigs (3.5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
WARPIGS[edit]
Personality[edit]
WARPIGS are aggressive predator/scavengers who seek honor and value strength. They are also extremely vain, to the point that everything they do in their lives is to better their name and image. Warpigs practice war from a very young age and every Warpig is a warrior, male and female. Warpigs all seem to be young or middle aged, very few live to be Venerable or old. As a species they prefer it this way for to die of bed sickness is to die without honor. To have lived a worthy life a Warpig must die doing what he or she loves, fighting.
Warpigs respect their Ancestors and those who have died bravely. They believe their ancestors bravery and valor get passed down from generation to generation. Many Warpigs will carry the skulls of a fallen family member as a bone shield, believing that the faith in their shield will make them stronger and more fierce. The shields are often used as defensive weapons as well; shield bashing enemies and ramming the tusks into foes.
They tend to be seen as brutes and gluttons. Despite they voracious appetites they do not maintain as much fat tissue as domestic pigs do. In fact being fat is reason enough to be exiled.
Warpigs see wild boars and Razorbacks as distant less evolved cousins. They view Dire boars as great beasts to be revered and honored. However domestic pigs are fat and lazy, which make them shameful and dishonored.
Warpigs practice war and fighting in their every day tasks. even their games are war based. A favorite game called Sloth Ball uses a large heavy Sloth hide ball. the teams use any means to get the ball and toss it at a spiked wall. The team with the most balls that are "spiked" win. Once a ball is spiked it can not be touched. A goal keeper at either end uses a heavy club to hit the ball away.
Warpig Society is Patriarchal with a Chieftain called the Battle Leader who governs each tribe. Most Battle Leaders keep a council of Wise ones, Veteran Warpigs male and female, but the word of the Battle Leader is final.
Warpigs are so successful because every Warpig despite his or her profession is a warrior first.
Warpigs living in tribes tend to be nomatic, yet territorial. They have large territories and travel from place to place in their territory. Most tribes have one or two permanent camp sites, usually a well fortified cave or hill top, that they always return to. That being said they live very Spartan lives and keep only the bare essentials that can be carried with them.
Warpigs keep few pets and/or animals for farming. Few Warpigs in fact farm but prefer to gather and hunt. Those Warpigs that do keep a pet tend to favor their lesser cousins the razorbacks and warthogs and/or Raptors they have tamed since birth. The Raptors being very intelligent and highly evolved are much less pets than they are companions. Warpigs have little to fear from their tamed Raptors or from wild raptors for the species can sense the wild ferocity in each other and have a mutual respect.
Warpigs respect Elves for their lithe grace and martial capabilities yet they find the elves slenderness to be too skinny and a weakness.
Warpigs respect the Dwarves more than any other race. They see them as stout, healthy warriors, with the right attitude about keeping to ones self.
Warpigs do enjoy celebrations. They drink a strong whiskey brewed in aged hollowed out Trees made inside living tree. They drink to excess seldomly though as they are always wary of an attack. Warpig's enjoy deep resonating drums that their War-drummers beat in a rhythm that matches the Warpig's heart beats to the earth around them which they feel connected to in their everyday lives.
Warpigs hate the destruction of their homelands and territories and have been known to chase farmers and developers off their territory.
Physical Description[edit]
Standing at four to six feet tall and weighing between 260-400 pounds, females weighing less. They are generally well muscled and covered in short bristling hairs except on their backs where the hair is longer. They have whiskers and tails (not the curly type but like those found on razorbacks). They have beady eyes and a boar snout which gives them extremely great sense of smell. Two tusks, one large and one shorter, protrude from each side of the Warpigs mouth. Warpigs seem to always be covered in a dust or dirt and are often mistaken for dirty but in fact are very clean.
Relations[edit]
Lone Warpigs are often hunted for food, sport and their tusks by savage races such as Orcs, Trolls, Bugbears, and Ogres.
While civilized races find them to be strong and honorable warriors they often mistake them for dumb brutes and often think of them as unclean. Civilized also find Warpigs culture of carrying tusks, skulls, or other parts of their ancestors as weapons, armor or jewelry disturbing.
A Warpig will happily enter the service of someone as a paid guard or enforcer, but unpaid servitude is since as a dishonor to them, for if their services go unpaid then they view their value and nothing.
Warpigs and the Supersloths have been at war for years, a brutal blood feud. The blood feud started over a misunderstanding but has gone on for so long neither race truly knows why they hate each other.
Warpigs see wild boars and Razorbacks as distant less evolved cousins. They view Dire boars as great beasts to be revered and honored. However domestic pigs are fat and lazy, which make them shameful and dishonored.
All though they live to make war and fight they are community based and Runts are raised by the whole tribe and protected fiercely.
Warpigs and Raptors see a ferocity in each other that matches their souls and have an unspoken bond. They are often bonded in a ceremony by the tribes Shamans and become life long companions.
Alignment[edit]
Warpigs are most often neutral and rarely ever evil
Lands[edit]
Warpigs are very versatile but prefer the mountains, forests and area of tall grass
Religion[edit]
Warpigs were created during the wizard wars to make stronger soldiers, being created they have no set deity. Most battle groups have chosen deities based of region and their intergroup dynamics.
Warpig religious leaders are most often Shamans.
Warpigs honor their ancestors to an almost religious degree. all though they are not worships as Gods they revered fiercely.
Language[edit]
Common and Warpig which is a series of grunts, snorts, and body language. Warpigs however cannot speak to their lesser cousin the normal pig and boar as the animal’s intelligence is too low.
Names[edit]
All warpig babies are called Runts until they are old enough to walk and begin training, then they are given a Surname that describes them in a negative way which inspires them to do great things and shed the lesser Surname. They also have First names but those are used rarely and most often Never change. As adults they must earn better Surnames by feats of strength and prowess.
An example of names by age would be
