More information...

A big shrub lumbers at you out of the woods. It is covered all over with wicked thorns and has branches sprouting from all over its body. Even its dark green leaves are pointed and look sharp. A large mass of prehensile roots function as legs and feet to let it move along the ground.

Warbound impalers are an artificial mutated breed of thorny shrubs. They are created by druids and clerics of nature deities by warping a young thorny plant with special rituals, which costs 5,000 gp in supplies and materials. It takes six months for warbound impalers to grow to maturity, but they are sterile and can't reproduce. This was done purposefully by the druids and clerics so they wouldn't get out of control and become a danger to their masters. They are used as enforcers and guardians by the clerics and druids who created them. They stand 8 feet tall, and weigh about 400 pounds. Warbound impalers cannot speak, but they can understand simple commands spoken in Common.

Combat[edit]

Warbound impalers will start combat by using thorn volleys if there's enemies within range, if not, they move towards enemies to get them within range of the volleys. They will use their thorn field once enemies are within range, to make it painful to approach them. A warbound impaler's slam attacks deal piercing damage due to the countless number of large thorns on its body and branches.

Improved Grab (Ex): If a warbound impaler hits an enemy with its slam attack it may choose to automatically attempt a grapple against the enemy without provoking an attack of opportunity.

Thorn Field (Ex): As a full round action, the warbound impaler can grow a field of thorns around itself that covers of a 30 ft. radius from itself. Creatures moving on the ground within the field take 1d6 damage per 5 ft. they move, the thorns deal piercing damage and the damage is subject to damage reduction (if an enemy has any damage reduction). The thorn field also counts as difficult terrain for Medium or smaller creatures. A warbound impaler is immune to its own thorn field, as well as the thorn fields of other warbound impalers. The thorn field lasts for a day, after that time the thorns are so withered they no longer do damage or hamper movement. The thorn field remains in place where it was grown and doesn't move with the warbound impaler. The warbound impaler can have any number of thorn fields active at the same time, but can only grow up to ten thorn fields per hour.

Thorn Volley (Ex): As a standard action, the warbound impaler can release a volley of thorns that shoot out in all directions from itself. Anyone within 60 ft. of the warbound impaler takes 8d6 damage, with a Reflex save DC 22 for half damage. The saving throw is Constitution-based. A warbound impaler is immune to its own thorn volley, as well as the thorn volleys of other warbound impalers.
