Gnome Subrace[edit]
The spirit of creation and discovery that enlightens the gnomes led some to the blazing heights of volcanoes. Over many years, these gnomes lived in molten heat, crafting fine metalwork from the ores in the craters. Their fiery homes have changed these folk into the volcano gnomes. Volcano gnomes have dark, reddish-tan skin that looks like branded leather, with short, bristly hair on males and females. They stand slightly taller than most other gnomes, and have broader shoulders as well, developed from the hard labor of metallurgy. Volcano gnomes namely manufacture beautiful jewelry, elegant tools, and nails and screws for construction. Their culture favors fine detail in their work, such as complicated engravings and inscriptions in Gnomish. Some have been known to live under the thumbs of fire giants, where they are forced to create weapons of war.
Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 1.
Blacksmith's Talent. You are proficient with smith's tools, and you can add double your proficiency bonus when making checks to add inscriptions, engravings, or designs to metal objects.
Fond of Heat. You are acclimated to hot climates, as described on page 5 of the DMG. Additionally, you have resistance to fire damage.
