Having witnessed the gifts Lolth gave her chosen few, the drow god of masculinity and thieves was not to be outdone.
As such, he stole the secrets for these blessings from his sister and corrupted them towards his own ends. He has since been leaving his mark upon various creatures that catch his attention, most often drow nobles who are in a prime position to influence society. Unlike the more martial creatures of the Spider Queen, however, Vhaeraun's kiss bestows those so-blessed with a greater understanding of deception and trickery, and the ability to shield themselves from scrying eyes.
Creating a Vhaeraun-Kissed Creature[edit]
"Vhaeraun-Kissed" is an acquired template that can be added to any corporeal living creature (referred to hereafter as the base creature), with creatures native to the Underdark that possess a cunning mind and innate magical abilities being far more likely to be affected.
A Vhaeraun-kissed creature uses all the base creature’s statistics and special abilities except as noted here.
Alignment[edit]
The creature's alignment remains unchanged, but only nongood, nonlawful creatures may be Vhaeraun-kissed.
Abilities[edit]
Increase from the base creature as follows: Dex +6, Cha +6.
Skills[edit]
A Vhaeraun-kissed creature gains a +4 racial bonus on Bluff and Disguise checks, and Bluff and Disguise are always considered class skills for them.
Feats[edit]
A Vhaeraun-kissed creature gains a bonus feat at 1, 5, 10, 15, and 20 HD from the following list: Blind-Fight, Craven, Darkstalker, Deceitful, Master Manipulator, Master of Poisons, Skill Focus (Bluff, Disguise, Hide, Move Silently, or Sense Motive only), Stealthy, and Trickery Devotion.
Special Qualities[edit]
A Vhaeraun-kissed creature has all the special qualities of the base creature, plus the following special quality.
Inscrutable (Su): The Vhaeraun-kissed creature is protected from all devices, spells, and effects that detect, influence, probe, or read emotions to thoughts, or when discerning lies or seeing through any disguises they adopt. This protection even foils limited wish, miracle, and wish spells when used in such a way. In the case of scrying that scans an area the creature is in, such as true seeing or with a crystal ball, the effect works but the creature simply isn’t detected. Scrying attempts that are targeted specifically at the subject do not work at all.
Further, any attempts to use such an effect against a Vhaeraun-kissed creature gives them an automatic saving throw (even if the effect would not normally allow one). If they succeed, the Vhaeraun-kissed creature is immediately alerted to the attempt, learns exactly who it is and where they are, and can even choose to give false information in place of the effect simply failing, similar to a false vision spell. If they fail the saving throw, the effect simply doesn't work, as described above.
Mundane attempts to determine any of this information, such as with a Sense Motive check to discern if the creature is lying or a Spot check to see through a disguise, are done so with a -10 penalty to the check.
