Velox, Variant (5e Race)
Velox[edit]
One day once more the veloxian empire will reign, and all will know their place.
Physical Description[edit]
The Velox are an impressive race of humanoid creatures that combine the agile and predatory elegance of velociraptors with anthropomorphic features. They stand between 5 and 6 feet tall, characterized by a lean, athletic build that emphasizes their natural speed and agility. Their bodies are covered in fine, reptilian scales, providing a slight sheen and coloration that can vary widely, often featuring greens, browns, or more vibrant hues with intricate patterns for camouflage and display.
Their heads are adorned with a crest of vibrant feathers, which starts at the crown and runs down the back of the neck, offering a striking contrast to their scaly skin. This feathered crest can puff up to express emotions or during displays of dominance or attraction. Their eyes are keen and raptor-like, set forward for binocular vision, and often a piercing shade of yellow or amber, conveying a sharp, intelligent gaze.
The face of a Velox is elongated into a snout, bearing a strong resemblance to that of their prehistoric ancestors, complete with a row of sharp, predatory teeth suited for their carnivorous diet. Their hands and feet are adapted with dexterous, claw-like fingers and toes, suited for gripping, climbing, and delivering powerful strikes. The alignment of these digits is distinctly raptor-like, with a prominent sickle-shaped claw on each foot, reminiscent of the characteristic claw of a velociraptor.
Their legs are structured with a digitigrade stance, giving them a natural spring and allowing for swift, efficient movement through a variety of terrains. This, combined with their powerful, muscular build, provides a distinctive and impressive presence. Finally, a strong tail extends from their lower back, functioning as a counterbalance, assisting with balance and agility, particularly when making rapid directional changes or leaping great distances. This tail is also covered in the same scales, possibly ending in a tuft of feathers, echoing their feathered crest and completing their striking silhouette.
History[edit]
The Veloxian Empire was once the most formidable power in the realm of Warrendell, a testament to the might and unity of the Velox race. Forged from the unification of hundreds of smaller Veloxian kingdoms, the empire stood as a beacon of their extraordinary pride and military prowess. These kingdoms came together under a singular vision, leveraging their combined resources and indomitable spirit to dominate much of the continent.
During their reign, the Velox held an unwavering belief in their superiority over other races, which led to a society structured around this hierarchy. At the height of their power, they subjugated the Oryc, the rabbit-like people, keeping them as slaves bred for labor and slaughter. This dark period fostered deep-seated racial tensions that reverberate through history, shaping the relations between the Velox and other races long after the empire's decline.
The strength of the Veloxian Empire was not solely in its numbers but in its unparalleled military might. They fielded the most powerful and disciplined armies, fiercely protective of their lands and people. The Velox took great pride in their ability to defend their territory, ensuring the safety and prosperity of their massive population.
Their legacy is one of both awe and fear, as the remnants of their empire still echo in the present. Though no longer a unified empire, the Velox remain a potent force within Warrendell, their history integral to the intricate tapestry of the continent's past and present.
Society[edit]
The kingdom of Veloxia is a land of astonishing complexity, where the legacy of its past as an empire permeates all aspects of life. Known as Veloxians, its people are fiercely proud of their heritage, often reflecting on the grandeur of their collective history. Veloxia stands as a testament to their influence, boasting immense military power and a flourishing trade economy that reaches far beyond its borders.
Military might and discipline are ingrained deeply into Veloxian culture, with a vast army and the largest navy in the world. This martial focus is complemented by an intricate web of trade, allowing Veloxia to amass wealth and maintain a vibrant economic influence on Warrendell. Despite their unified front, internal struggles abound, as smaller kingdoms within Veloxia engage in clandestine conflicts, maneuvering for power through hidden criminal empires, all under the guise of working together.
Leadership among the Veloxians is fluid, governed by a dynamic system where kings are measured by the number of their followers. Thousands of wealthy kings preside over this beautiful and prosperous kingdom, where art and culture flourish. Veloxia is a haven for artists, inspired by the kingdom’s abundance and diversity. This artistic vibrancy manifests in stunning architecture, music, and visual arts that are admired across the continent.
The Veloxians are not only warriors and traders but also scholars. Their society prides itself on intellectual achievement, boasting the highest institutions of learning and technological innovation, advancing faster than any other nation. This deep respect for education cements their status as a leading force in knowledge and discovery.
Veloxia’s lands are among the most lush and diverse in all of Warrendell. The kingdom is home to expansive green swathes, featuring vast swamps, sprawling forests, tropical rainforests, and idyllic remote islands. It’s a realm where natural beauty complements human achievement, and where large agricultural fields support their thriving populations. This unique blend of militaristic fervor, cultural richness, and environmental stewardship makes Veloxia a captivating and enduring presence in the world of Warrendell.
