Vegepygmy (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Vegepgymie[edit]
Physical Description[edit]
Standing normally around 2 to 4 feet tall Vegepgymies are usually green or gray with pale eyes. They have many strange vine and fungus growths over their entire body that can help define one Vegepygmie from another.
History[edit]
Vegepygmys are created by a dangerous fungus known as russet mold—creatures are slain by russet mold serve as incubators for the mold’s spores, and a day later, the dead body bursts to release fully grown vegepygmys. A vegepygmy has no real relation to the body from which it emerges, but the creature may yet retain a strange sort of reverence for its “birth corpse” and carry with it a grisly memento from the body, typically a few bones or teeth. Often, a vegepygmy uses such bones to craft a crude spear or some other weapon.
Society[edit]
Vegepygmies, also called mold folk or moldies, are fungus creatures that inhabit dark areas that are warm and wet, including underground caves and dense forests where little sunlight penetrates. Although they prefer to eat fresh meat, bone, and blood, vegepygmies can absorb nutrients from the soil and many forms of organic matter, meaning that they rarely go hungry. A vegepygmy can hiss and make other noises by forcing air through its mouth, but it can't speak in a conventional sense. Among themselves, vegepygmies communicate by hissing, gestures, and rhythmic tapping on the body. Vegepygmies build and craft little; any gear they have is acquired from other creatures or built by copying simple construction they have witnessed. Vegepygmies are very superstitious and tend to fear the strangest of things, one of the things they fear the most is the chewing. Thinking it is a nature spirit who will smite them if they do not bring it offerings.
