Physical Description[edit]

Vectors are creatures that have tailed forms, faces like sea lions, and slimy bodies like sea slugs. They commonly have three digit hands and feet, with tendrils of their light blue flesh dangling like a mane of hair from their head. Their eyes are bioluminescent underwater, and their tail is thick and segmented with glowing sections as well. When threatened, they can roll up like pillbugs, thanks to a tough covering from their face down their backs to the ends of their tails.

History[edit]

The vectors came about as the result of a type of plankton. This plankton looked vague arrow-shaped and so was called vector. This plankton was known to spawn and congregate at runoffs of magic, notably in nature where mystical energies reside as points of convergence with magic in the air and Weave. This exposure accelerated their growth and evolution, allowing them more able forms with limbs, eyes, and such. They are known to play pranks on humans near bodies of water inland, like near streams and ponds. However, this is usually in good fun and they are not so dangerous as kappa are. Out in the wider waters of seas and oceans, they have been seen in playful groups called volleys. In certain shipwreck incidents, they have been known to help guide sailors to shore and rescue them from drowning. As such, they are seen as benevolent patrons of seafarers. Some initially mistook them to be merpeople or selkies at first.

Society[edit]

Vectors live in their groups called volleys. These are led like packs by a leader, which can be male or female. It is usually the fastest and strongest member. Under them are those able to heal and take up the positions of soldiers. They are largely a polygamous race that is nomadic, usually searching for warmer waters in the world. Numerous underwater grottoes, waterfall caves, and caverns are their periodic homes for portions of the year. They usually move inland to reproduce and trade with others. Their main goods are healing arts using water. Cauls are known to be extremely valuable to them, as their race is incapable of producing any. They believe this bodily byproduct is a charm to ward off sea spirits.

Personality[edit]

Vectors are like dolphins or sea lions in demeanor. They can be playful and territorial at times. Those in positions of power are usually very guarded and aloof of threats to their security. For the most part, vectors prefer to be carefree and do things slowly and perfectly. Happiness is very important to them, which is why playing is vital. Fun ends when people get hurt, however. Vectors dislike the idea of death and like to shrug off hard problems or procrastinate on them and letting them fester. When the chips are down, they are quick to act and will often try to help others, granted their own affairs are in order.

Vector Names[edit]

Vectors take Aquan or Sylvan names usually due to their connection with water and nature magic.

Vector Traits[edit]

Sea creatures evolved from magic plankton
Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and your Intelligence increases by 1.
Age. Vectors live a long lifespan due to their ability to recycle old cellular material in water. The oldest vector was about 200 years old.
Alignment. Vectors tend to be good-natured and rather loose.
Size. Standing upright, vectors are a bit shorter than humans. From tip to tail, they average at 6 feet. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Vectors usually run on land on all fours to keep up with land dwellers, using their tails as balance. Your base walking speed is 30 feet. You have a swimming speed of 30 feet.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Underwater Bioluminescence. While submerged underwater, your body lights up in certain segments and illuminates your immediate area in dim light for up to 10 feet.
Amphibious. You can breathe both air and water.
Water Healing. You can enchant water with your healing arts and make it able to mend wounds. You can spend 1 minute enchanting a vial[1], roughly 4 ounces[2], of regular water, making a special salve. This water restores 2d4 hit points to a creature that applies it to wounds. It has no effect on constructs or undead. Administering the potion takes an action. Once you have created a potion using this trait, you cannot do so again until you have finished a long rest. The potion spoils after 24 hours, losing its healing effect and turning back to normal water. The potion's healing increases by 2d4 when you reach 5th level (4d4), 11th level (6d4), and 17th level (8d4).
Fey Ancestry. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can't put you to sleep.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and either Aquan or Sylvan.
