User talk:Quincy/Nordic Variant (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Don't know why you get proficiency in Survival twice or why you get three skills and then an extra one in class features. Also, the language proficiency should be moved to the class features SirSprinkles (talk) 00:20, 27 April 2016 (MDT)
This is full of design errors.
- Frozen home. What is a "save against cold"? Do you mean like cold environments? (although that isn't a saving throw, and doesn't deal damage) - or spell effects that deal cold damage but require a saving throw?
- Nordic Pact - what does this do mechanically? If nothing, then it goes in the description rather than class features.
- Valhalla - I think most PCs, particularly front-line fighters, are expected to die in battle once or twice through the course of the campaign. That's why we have the raise dead spell in the first place. So I guess when this player dies (which is likely given their disadvantage here), that's it, they have to roll up a new character?
- Life of the land. Move the skill proficiencies to the skill proficiencies section. You have given them 5 skills. Please look at the PHB classes. Note that 2 class skills is "average", 3 is for skilled characters, 4 skills represents highly skilled classes (the rogue).
- Runes - as written this is a really cheap, quick way of making magic items (that would normally take weeks to create with signficiant GP cost). I advise making these runes last a limited length of time (1 day?), give them a GP cost in materials (say 50 gp), set the engraving time to one of the standardized 5e times (e.g. 1 hour). All especially since I can engrave runes on the equipment of everyone in the party.
- I do not like seeing enforced player-character behaviour. The player should be role-playing this, it should not be mechanized.
- Drunken Fighter and Nordic Strength. Here we see numeric bonuses and penalties. 5e has largely eliminated this kind of bonus to avoid stacking. Use advantage and disadvantage for circumstantial bonuses/penalties. You can sometimes use a small set bonus (as with the fighter styles).
- Battle Cry - "at the very beginning of combat" should be "When you roll for initiative";"for 10 turns" should be "for 1 minute"; "resistance" should be "advantage on saving throws against" I suggest reading through the PHB again?
- Call to arms - this is so densely packed with errors I can't get my head around unpicking it right now.
- Ship Hand - So, 6 skills now. What is a "nordic watercraft"?
- I will stop there for now. Marasmusine (talk) 01:55, 27 April 2016 (MDT)
