User talk:DM Sam?
Welcome to D&D Wiki![edit]
- Welcome!
Hello DM Sam? and welcome to D&D Wiki. I hope you have been enjoying D&D Wiki and I hope you have been finding the information here useful. Before you start contributing it is recommended you make sure your user preferences match your preferences. I am an admin (and, actually, the owner as well). Everything relating to admins can be found here.
- Questions
If you have any questions about a specific page please ask it on that pages talk page. All other questions should be asked to another; user, admin, or me, the owner (ask me a question).
- Formatting
Formatting on D&D Wiki (or any wiki for that matter) can be very difficult, and if you need help a good place to start is Help:Editing on Wikipedia (or even their Introduction page). This will explain basic wiki formatting and should provide quite a few useful links that explain more specific areas of wiki formatting. Again, if you have any questions about formatting on D&D Wiki please ask them as, I imagine, anybody will be more than happy to help you get them answered.
- Community
A strong and welcoming community exists on D&D Wiki, and I am sure you will find it rather nice. Most discussions take place on content talk pages, however please feel free to ask specific D&D-related questions on DnD Discussions. Anyway, possibly since discussions are never deleted, people try to be nice. This means follow Wikipedia's guidelines on civility and etiquette when discussing anything. Also, on a pretty different note, to ensure people know who posted what, please sign your name after a post with four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the signature icon (). This will automatically produce your name and the date. Anyway, I hope you come to enjoy D&D Wiki and the community and welcome again, you are now a D&D Wikian. --Green Dragon 11:41, 19 October 2010 (MDT)
Page Indicators[edit]
Hi, and welcome to the wiki. If you need any help with anything I am about to tell you, feel free to leave a comment on my talk page.
First, I want to mention page indicators. These are the things you seen in parentheses at the end of most page names, like (3.5e Spell) or (4e Race). We do that because we have 3.5e, 4e, d20 Modern, and are now adding 3e material to our wiki. It is therefore important for you to make sure to include these at the end of your page names. However, don't worry about remaking all new pages. You don't have to. Every page has a tab at the top that says "Move". You can click on this tab, and change the page name to include the correct indicator. It will move all the content to the new page, and then create a redirect so any pages that you have linked to the first page will now automatically link to the new one. This can also be used if you want to rename something. The next thing I want to bring up are breadcrumbs. Breadcrumbs are the things at the bottom of pages that take you back on the wiki. You should do your best to make sure all of them are the correct breadcrumbs for the content of your page, and that there are no red links. Categories, which are also at the bottom of the page, should be included to help people searching through content. For the time being you may want to categorize your content under existing categories, and only make new ones when you get more comfortable with wiki editing. Also, I'm just going to mention this out of habit to all new editors. If you make an edit on a talk page or leave a comment or something, be sure to sign your post with --~~~~. Alright, well, welcome to the wiki. --Badger 17:43, 22 October 2010 (MDT)
