Pilot (Int or Dex)[edit]

Specialisation: Heavy Airplane, Helicopter, Jet Fighter, Light Airplane, Spacecraft

The ability to operate a powered vehicle. Skill checks are only necessary in difficult situations such as performing vehicular stunts, avoiding hazards, etc. The Pilot skill is used for air/space vehicles.

Check: Routine tasks, such as ordinary flying, do not require a Skill check. Make a check only when some unusual circumstance exists (such as inclement weather or an icy surface), or when the character is flying during a dramatic situation (the character is being chased or attacked, for example, or is trying to reach a destination in a limited amount of time). When flying, the character can attempt simple manoeuvres or stunts.

Try again? Most piloting checks have consequences for failure that make trying again impossible.

Special: A character can take 10 when flying (if not in combat or otherwise threatened or distracted), but cannot take 20. There is no penalty for operating a general-purpose vehicle. Other, specialised types of vehicles require the corresponding [Mecha] Operation Feat, or the character takes a -4 penalty on Pilot checks.

Time: A Pilot check is a move action.
