A bit about myself and my experiences with roleplaying, and specifically D&D[edit]
So, first and foremost, GURPS is what got me into the whole roleplaying business a few years ago. A friend bought 3rd Edition GURPS, we had some good times and it was a lot of fun, with me generally GMing. Then I kinda stopped finding people who would roleplay and didn't for a year or so.
Then, a friend invites me over to his house, and him and two others want to play with their Dad's copy of D&D third edition (player's handbook only), they are all really young, and want me to DM.
I've never played D&D before and here I am DMing it. Hilarity ensues and we all have a fun time despite making a complete mockery of the rules. For example, we rolled initiative every round. And we used "Shroedinger's skill points". And countless other mistakes that I may not recognize even yet.
So, now, I'm trying to learn how to actually play Dungeons and Dragons and get lots of awesome material for my group before we play the next game.
Epic moments in my roleplaying career[edit]
" " Is in character, what they are saying.
DM: Alright, you open the closet, a 5 by 5 room and find (roll) er.... Eight Goblins. Sorcerer: "Burning Hands!"
Paladin: Alright, I charge at the Ogre. "SMITE EVIL!!!!" He stops midcharge and looks back at the team. Paladin:"Er, are Ogres Evil or Neutral?" (We were running this session in a OOTS manner where talking about skills, feats, and special abilities was in character) Team: "Um.. Sure, Ogre's are evil." Paladin: "Alright, SMITE EVIL!!!!"
DM: The noble catches you stealing and demands "What are you doing in my pockets!" Rogue: "Um, I'm a policeman looking for drugs." DM: Roll Bluff Rouge: 17 DM: He believes you and sa... Paladin: "You there, policeman, I require your aid to help me raid a dungeon!"
Druid: I spout gibberish at the Dwarves. DM: Uh... (rolls) You start a blood feud.
DM: Alright, you are rolling sense motive, what are your ranks in Sense Motive? Sorcerer: *Scribble Scribble* I have four ranks in Sense Motive.
