A strange combination of crab and jellyfish clumsily stumbles by and slurps up one of the fish you had caught just a moment ago.
Many scholars wonder how such a strange beast can survive, and even thrive, in such numbers. The answer is quite simple however. While they are some of the clumsier and weaker of the oceans predators, there are few creatures willing to eat it. Although some ocean denizens are willing to feed on one as a last resort, only the skum seek them out, as their aboleth masters consider them to be a delicacy.
Jellycrabs are opportunistic predators and scavengers, feeding on crabs, sea cucumbers, and whatever else can be found at the ocean floor, in addition to feeding on deep sea carrion and occasionally seaweed or kelp. Jellycrab mating occurs twice a year and produces dozens of soft, jelly-covered eggs. Fortunately for the ecosystem, these eggs are often eaten by other jellycrabs, carried off by skum for breeding pits, or crushed by sentient lifeforms to prevent infestations.
No more intelligent that an animal, a jellycrab cannot speak nor can it understand any commands.
Combat[edit]
Completely ill equipped for combat, jellycrabs avoid conflict with anything other than tiny prey. If forced to fight, they will kick with their sharp legs and attempt to paralyze with their tentacle poison. If it succeeds in incapacitating foes, they will flee as they cannot consume large prey.
Poison(Ex): A jellycrab's tentacles carry a paralyzing oil requiring a fortitude save of 15 to resist (1d6 dex damage initial and secondary).
