User:Sigma 7/Attacking Equipment (4e Variant Rule)
From D&D Wiki
The 4th edition of D&D includes a minimal set of rules for attacking objects, but doesn't explicitly mention that they can't be used to attack enemy equipment. However, objects in control of a creature are expected to undergo more caution than a weapon laying on the ground.
You may attack a piece of equipment with any melee or ranged power. However, bursts or blasts lack the precision to single out a piece of equipment, and attack the target directly.
Equipment Defenses[edit]
The defenses of equipment in use by a creature should match the creature itself. They still retain the immunities of normal objects.
Equipment Hit Points[edit]
In the object properties table, equipment will use the small row, thus having 10 base hp. If it is designed for use with large creatures, it will take the medium row. Equipment of huge creatures will use the large row, and so on.
Combat equipment will always be counted as reinforced, as those items are either meant to be used in battle, or the owner exercises sufficent caution to prevent reckless destruction of the item.
The hit point multipliers based on material should always be at least x1, even if it's a weapon otherwise based on leather,
Furthermore, apply the following multiplier, in addition to those already described. The table works either on the enhancement bonus or equivalent (based on monster's level).
Multiplier | Enhancement |
---|---|
x1 | None |
x2 | +1 enhancement, or masterwork |
x3 | +2 enhancement |
x4 | +3 enhancement |
x5 | +4 enhancement |
x6 | +5 enhancement |
x7 | +6 enhancement |
