Runes of Creation:
(Pathfinder Version)
“When the gods created the universe, that extreme show of power left its mark. That mark comes in the form of the Runes of Creation. Some believe the Runes are the tool the gods used to create the world; others believe the Runes are but a trace of that action. All I know for sure is they hold magical power.” - Unknown Runemaster.
The Runes of Creation form a strange magic subsystem based on skills and feats. Each rank in the skill of Runecraft grants another daily Creation point, which can be spent to use the magical abilities granted by Rune of Creation feats.
The Runes hold the power of Creation (hence the name). They are capable of restoring and enhancing objects and creatures and of creating new objects and creatures. However, their powers are limited; Runes can't destroy things, transform things or take control of things.
Someone who wants to dabble in runecraft can just take a couple Rune of Creation feats to supplement their normal abilities. For those who want to focus on the Runes, the Runemaster class offers extra Creation points and bonus Rune feats to spread outward and use the Runes to their full potential.
New Skill: Runecraft (None)
Action: Not applicable.
Try Again: Not applicable. There are no Runecraft checks to fail.
The Runecraft skill doesn’t work like other skills. Instead, for each rank of Runecraft you have, you have one Creation point. Character with at least 1 rank of Runecraft have extra Creation points equal to their Int modifier (max. 1/2 Runecraft ranks).
Creation points can be spent to use Rune of Creation feats; points spent are restored after 4 hours of sleep or rest, but only once per day.
Each Rune Feat grants you access to one Rune of Creation. As a standard action, you can pay a Rune's cost to use it and cause its Effect. Using a Rune of Creation requires an open hand to trace the rune in the air. For effects like Detect Magic, Rune effects are Conjuration spells whose spell level is the cost in Creation points.
Runecraft is a class skill for all classes that have Spellcraft as a class skill. If Runecraft is a class skill for a character, they get 3 additional Creation points if they have at least 1 rank of Runecraft.
Magic Items:
Creation Shards:
Creation Shards are small crystal shards of creative energy. Some Runes of Creation feats require you to spend one or more shards to use their abilities.
Creation Shards come in three colors: white, light blue and light green.
In addition to their use for Runes, Creation Shards can be used like a scroll to cast a spell. The spell in the shard depends on the color:
White: Cure Moderate Wounds.
Light blue: Lesser Restoration.
Light green: Summon Nature's Ally II.
Shards can be purchased for 150 gp each. Shards can not be crafted. They are a natural resource that has to be found and collected.
Runestones:
Runestones are small stones marked with a Rune of Creation. As a standard action, a creature can break a Runestone to create the effect of the Rune marked on it; the effect targets the creature that broke the stone. The rune's effect is created as if the breaker had the minimum ranks of Runecraft needed to gain that rune.
Runestones can contain any Rune that targets exactly one creature and whose cost is 3 Creation points or less. The cost of the Runestone depends on the cost of the Rune.
1 Creation point: 50 gp
2 Creation points: 300 gp
3 Creation points: 750 gp
Runemaster:
While anyone can dabble in runes, runemasters are devoted to runecraft. While their single-minded devotion leaves them weak in other fields, their control over the Runes of Creation is unrivaled. This skill makes them most effective in a support role on the battlefield, healing their allies and making them more powerful.
Runemasters are intelligent folks, owing to the Runes requiring a high Intelligence score to learn and use. Other than that, runemasters don't really have anything in common. You can't really identify a runemaster by looking at them. Leaders and followers, paragons and tyrants; anyone can walk the path of the Runes.
