Lilithid[edit]
The Lilithid are a race in Dungeons & Dragons.
Good for party members who join because she has something to gain rather than for altruism. Heroic Lilithid have a tendency to be those in the class of a Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, Warlock, or Wizard, but are unlikely to be in a Barbarian, Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Monk, or Paladin class.
Appearance[edit]
Height between 4 and 5½ ft, average 5 ft.
Adult females are invariably humanoid. Pure‐blood female Lilithid have grayish-orange skin which is mostly covered in fine downy hairs that give a shimmer in bright sunlight; likewise, from the top of her head grows thicker and longer brownish-black hair which never extends below her shoulders. Ears are tight against the side of head and do not extend outward like the ears of some other races. Eyes are large and eyelids are dark. Nose is small, wide, short, and does not protrude far.
Personality and alignment[edit]
Alignment[edit]
Alignment is a personal matter; you can't stereotype an entire race with full alignments!
Lilithid tend to be solitary persons, so they are usually slightly on the “evil” side; Lilithid have no special predilections for “lawful” or “chaotic” natures, so they are usually “neutral” but equally likely to be “lawful” or “chaotic”.
Attitude and psychology[edit]
Careful but not stoic; have a genetically inherent weakness for cakes made of paste from the sweet red legume.
Relationships[edit]
Because they are mostly solitary (cf #Attitude and psychology and #Society) and can interbreed with almost any other race (cf #Life cycle), Lilithid are usually viewed with some suspicion by others — while many Lilithid consider any acquaintances which she makes, with fellow Lilithid or other races alike, simply as minor events in her entire life. For a Lilithid, knowing people is much the same as borrowing books from a library.
Abilities and traits[edit]
These are characteristics of an genetically pure, i·e not hybridized, Lilithid. A hybrid Lilithid can have varied or additional traits and abilities if ancestry grants such; very rarely, traits or abilities can be absent.
Physical[edit]
Planar sensitivity[edit]
A Lilithid can detect planar energy through the soles of her feet and the palms of her hands; requires contact of skin on the object unless the planar energy can permeate through whatever attire is worn.
This ability can be useful to sense variations between the Shadowfell, Medial, and Feywild natures of things, or to detect planar intrusions or disruptions and such.
- DM information
- If your world is not one where the Shadowfell and Feywild are aspects of a single Material Plane, but are adjacent planes, then substitute ‘Material’ for “Medial” in the above paragraph.

Somewhat amphibious[edit]
Lilithid are able to breathe in very moist air which would belabor the breathing of most other races. They can also obtain some oxygen through moisture on their skin, especially when immature (cf #Life cycle).
A Lilithid can drown, but brief submergence in oxygenated water does not inconvenience them.

Infrasonic[edit]
A Lilithid is able to hear rumbles and vibrations which are too low for the perception of many other races.

Eyes of shadow[edit]
The eyes of a Lilithid, with few exceptions, work best in the dim light of their homeland; cf below.

Mental[edit]
Intuition[edit]
Lilithid are adept at perceiving the nuances of behavior and attitudes from other persons. Planar sensitivity (cf above) has something to do with this, making a Lilithid slightly empathic. Attempts to glean thoughts from the Astral minds of other persons are improved.
As a result, other races who interact with a Lilithid are likely to feel … distrust, fearful of being connived or manipulated, if they notice her perceptiveness … contrawise, persuaded if they do not.

Ecology[edit]
Life cycle[edit]
The Lilithid have quite severe sexual dimorphism: males are semi-sentient and kept guarded as pets; females are sentient as other humanoids. Males are only born of two Lilithid parents, but Lilithid females can interbreed with any other race capable of insemination and give birth to a hybridized Lilithid daughter.
A Lilithid has never been seen to give birth to more than a single child per each gestation.
A single gestation is four lunar cycles. Infants are small, quadrupedal, and cutely lizard‐like or newt‐like; from their birth to maturity, during which time the infant grows in size and intelligence, is approximately two-hundred months — though bad diet and illness can delay the onset of maturity.
When male Lilithid mature, they undergo an incomplete metamorphosis: maintaining a short tail and comparatively weak ability to stand upright. Female Lilithid undergo an arduous complete metamorphosis to become humanoid for their adulthood.
Life expectancy[edit]
One hundred years average for a pure‐blood Lilithid, but varies widely if a Lilithid is hybridized with another race.
Anatomy[edit]
Regardless of what other race may be the father of a hybrid Lilithid, she will always exhibit a body which is Lilithid‐like. A daughter from an Aarakocra as father, for example, will not have beak or talons but could have feathers, and would not be amphibious but adapted to high altitudes.
The palms and soles of a Lilithid's hands and feet are sensitive to planar energy (cf #Planar sensitivity), and so appear to glow briefly following contact with such surfaces. The glow is brighter with more potent planar energy but does not persist for a longer time. This can be a disadvantage if stealth is required: can be seen on a passive perception check.
planar energy | maximal ambient lighting for glow to be obvious |
---|---|
Prime Plane | glow is too faint |
Inner Planes | Darkness |
Outer Planes | Dim Light |
Diet[edit]
Organic foods, preferring sweet cakes.
Environment[edit]
Lilithid prefer cool and moist climes, but they have a wide range of tolerance.
At the extremes of their tolerance:
- very hot or arid conditions, which most other races could endure albeit uncomfortably for some, are deleterious to the health of a Lilithid — a Lilithid rapidly becomes crippled and more than a few hours kills her;
- lethal extremes of cold or damp are farther from her comfortable conditions, and therefore not so dangerous (cf #Anatomy and #Somewhat amphibious).
Culture[edit]
Society[edit]
Lilithid have a solitary lifestyle, but they are not entirely hermits: They simply do not engage other persons in their private lives very much or often. When Lilithid congregate, they either form small colonies among other races or a single loose city named Lilithensl: somewhere in the deeps of Tangfer Rainforest, where the limestone caverns meet with the underground river.
The location of Lilithensl is a closely guarded secret because all Lilithid males are kept there, and a small conclave of pure‐blood Lilithid live there also — they do not despise other races, but do ensure the progeny of their racial distinctiveness.
Religion[edit]
In Lilithensl, the conclave of pure‐blood Lilithid adhere to a manner of ancestral veneration and worship of their cultural and ethnic heritage.
Elsewhere and otherwise, Lilithid pay little more than commensurate attention upon those gods from whom the Lilithid hopes to gain some benefits: a Lilithid acting as an acolyte is very rare, and no Lilithid missionaries or priests have been seen so far — although some rumors, probably false, are heard which repute that persons with very distant Lilithid ancestry are serving as priests of Great Mother. A Lilithid who made a pact with an immortal entity is much more probable.
Art[edit]
Though many Lilithid enjoy making small sculptures and paintings, they hide these from all but their most trusted friends.
Most Lilithid seem to conceive of aesthetics as private matters, so that the more utilitarian aspect of their personality is the more obvious to strangers. As such, and especially considering the manner whereby Lilithid tend to regard other races (cf #Relationships), those same other races see the Lilithid as aloof and unimaginative.
Adventurers[edit]
Lilithid are often seen out on adventures, alone or with parties temporarily joined because she can gain more than she spends with the group. A vagabond Lilithid is rarer, however, because she prefers to have a secure home — cf #Attitude and psychology.
Warfare[edit]
Lilithensl as a whole has involved itself in very few outright conflicts, excepting ongoing animosities with the furtive Warforged commandant Qhelefar. Most of their disputes do not
Colonies of Lilithid elsewhere are not often seen to engage in conscripted or enlisted armies, and moreso are usually seen to decidedly avoid any such entanglements.
Language[edit]
Because many Lilithid often live among other races, a Lilithid tends to learn whatever languages best suits her needs.
In Lilithensl, Lidhese is spoken among all inhabitants.
Equipment and clothing[edit]
Names[edit]
Females seem to prefer semantically nonsense names constructed per this formula:
{B,D,F,J,L,P,Q,R,V}{e,i,o,u}{f,h,j,k,m,p,s,t,th,v,w,z}{a,aa,ee,i,ii,uu}{n,th,}
Some examples:
- Bekath
- Dihaan
- Vemii
Males are given affectionate familiar names by their mate and her acquaintances: E·g, Chubby‐boy or Slow‐step.
Ancestry is often ceremoniously quoted in more formal greetings, during rituals, or in the histories preserved at Lilithensl.
Notable Lilithid[edit]
- Lilii, a champion of the Forgotten Wars — but nobody remembers what she did, exactly.
- Qijaan, counselor to the Aarakocran Clans in Hijmekarap.
- Pevuu, whom only the gullible think to be a high‐priest of Great Mother.
[edit]
Interbreeding with other races produces a child which is always female and who is certainly a Lilithid, but bearing some traits from the non-Lilithid father. Most Lilithid have few non-Lilithid genes because Lilithid with more hybridized genes tend to live in small insular colonies away from Lilithensl.
