Should I Fall In Battle[edit]

Throughout my journeys under Lord Felstar's employ, and under the direction of That Which Watches, I have continually been reminded of my own mortality - recently, more strongly than ever. I am no longer the fool of my younger days, thinking myself immortal; time and misfortune have cured me of that. I know, sooner or later, I will be met with a foe that I cannot best. I know that I will fall, and I know that I will not get up again.

Thus, I write this message to you, my companions - some long-time friends, others more ephemeral in our acquaintance, though no less valued for it.

To Immerial, most-senior member of Felstar's Freelancers, I leave the responsibility to care for my remains. Don't let that lokark[1] necromancer defile my corpse, my afterlife will be spent in better ways than as a shambling sack of rot. There is a white granite coffin aboard the Sunfury. Seal my body within and send me home. Of my possessions, distribute the coin as you will, though keep a tenth in reserve for each of my families. My armor and weapons, I ask that you leave untouched, unless they are greatly needed. All else, save the items on the list marked 'Reagents' and the Rune Stone, may be taken as needed, or provided to Felstar's inventory for later use.

If any of my First Family still live, though I expect not, they may be found by their clan-name of the Twisted Scars. I may have a nephew living somewhere around Rutwalla Peak, to the south-east of Godspear Lake. If you find him, he will have a place in the ceremony of my final rest.

You may have better luck finding my Second Family - those I rode with before my clan was destroyed. They can be found under the banner of the Lightning Riders, and they range all along the western peaks. Tell them that Greytooth finally bit off more than he could chew. They will mourn in their own way, and send an old friend to my place of interring.

As for my Third Family, my fellow Wardens can be reached at the place I have spoken to Evander of, where the rite will be performed. They will know of my passing, and will take charge of the Death Rites. The items I have been searching for, in addition to the Rune Core, must be delivered to them. The importance of this cannot be understated.

Finally, I ask that one of you, my Fourth Family, be present when the time comes. Though it may be difficult to leave your duties unattended, you will find it worth your while. This I promise you on my soul.

DM STUFF, PCs DON'T LOOK:

During the Death Rites, Frucho's spirit will appear; he will provide a boon to all present at the funeral (maybe a one-time NO U to character death, maybe something else), and he will become one of the immortal, ascended servants of That Which Watches, empowered to do his work in all ways, but limited from contact with the mortal plane. All barriers must be respected, the one between Life and Death especially.
