User:Marasmusine/Random AI Experiments/Magic Items with HoloAI

From D&D Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

HoloAI allows you to train your own AI. I used text from the 5e SRD section on magic items, and got these results.

Notes:

  • It clearly still draws from sources outside of the training data, inlcuding 3rd edition sources (references to "free actions" and "standard actions").
  • It undersdands the lead description format of type (subtype), rarity.
  • Obviously the AI has no understanding of the actual mechanics of D&D, so the mechanical rules it gives are far from perfect. However, it would not take much re-writing to make these usable.
  • Further testing required to see if it understands how rarity relates to how powerful an item is. It gave the "amulet of dimensions" a common rarity, but that might be an outlier.

Unprompted[edit]

For this first set of items, I allowed the AI to generate the text unprompted.

Elemental Bomb[edit]

Flask, leather (quarter), uncommon (requires attunement)

When you hold this flask, all damage dealt by fire, cold, lightning, poison, acid, or necrotic damage deals an extra 1d6 force damage. You can use your action to deal 2d6 damage instead, but you must expend a charge of this flask for each d6 that would otherwise be dealt. As a result, you gain one charge per day at dawn.

Warhorse[edit]

Warhorse (any breed), uncommon (varies)

When you ride on your warhorse, your mount gains temporary hit points equal to 1/2 your total character level for each hour that you spend mounted. It has AC 10, 30 feet, 15 feet per point of speed, 5 times its actual carrying capacity, can move stealthily at night, and ignores difficult terrain. As long as it remains under your control, it obeys your verbal commands, provided they are understandable.

Barrel Roll Weapon[edit]

Weapon (pistol or crossbow), uncommon (+0), rare (+1), or very rare (+2)

As part of your movement action, you can cause the weapon to pivot slightly. You can make this attack as a free action if you have a hand free. On a hit, you can use a standard action to barrel-roll up to 5 feet for every five feet of movement. Your speed decreases by 10 while you are rolling.

Golden Bough[edit]

Bunch of berries, very rare

You may harvest this spell berry once per day, gathering one bunch as part of a short rest. This spell berry confers a +4 enhancement bonus on saving throws made against poison and diseases, and it cures lesser injury for 1 hour. It does nothing for magical effects such as paralysis or sleep.

Name Given[edit]

For the following items, I told the AI the name of the magic item (i.e. I prompted "Uranium Rod" then generated text). This is to see if it can generate mechanics appropriate to the name.

Uranium Wand[edit]

10 charges, 1st level, uncommon (requires attunement by a wizard)

A hand-sized rod that has been infused with uranium. You can use an action to throw it up to 20 feet, becoming shrouded until the start of your next turn. When you take this item into battle, each ally you share a square with you gains an extra 2 foot of movement speed for their turns during combat, as long as they don’t move more than 5 feet away from you.

Amulet of Dimensions[edit]

Amulet, common

While holding this amulet, you have complete freedom of movement within your body, including through other objects and into the Ethereal Plane. You can move yourself up to 20 feet in any direction each round without expending effort. In addition, if you are incorporeal or dimensionally transcendent, while wearing this amulet, you are limited only by the size of the area you can occupy in your current form. You may shift from incorporeal form to dimensional transcendence at will, though you can maintain neither form indefinitely without expending concentration points.

Ring of the Endless Dungeon[edit]

Ring, uncommon (requires attunement)

While wearing this ring, your eyes turn violet instead of black. You are immune to poison and you know the exact location of all dungeons beneath Zagig Keep within 30 miles.

You can still discern these dungeons even if you are blind.

These dungeons contain treasure, artifacts, monsters, and hidden doors. Any door concealed within a dungeon must be openable with the ring. It takes 1 minute of concentration to read the location of a particular dungeon.

Your ability to enter and leave these rooms of endless caverns is limited only by your endurance. Your eyes return to their normal color as soon as you step out of a dungeon.

Silly Stuff[edit]

That seems to work. What if the names get a little whackier? Less related to D&D?

Magic Item: Rod of Summoning the Improv Comedian, Greg Proops[edit]

Rod, common (requires attunement)

You have learned to tap into the spirit world, finding clever ways to get what you need out of nothing at all. You must expend 1 charge each day to maintain this ability, which ends if your concentration lapses. It regains half its expended amount every nightfall. When you do so, roll d20. On a 20, the effect continues until the start of your next turn.

  • If you aren't able to hold your tongue in public, you can summon forth an NPC whose presence causes anyone within 120 feet of him to laugh uncontrollably. Make a melee touch attack against the summoned creature, using Charisma as your spellcasting ability for that attack. The DC for the touch attack is equal to 15. On a hit, the target makes a DC 25 Wisdom check to remain conscious. On a failure, it falls unconscious for 3d4 rounds. The DC of these checks increases by 5 each time the target fails one or more such checks, up to a maximum of 25.

The Apparatus of Garlic Reprogramming[edit]

An object of special function, artifact, or container of extradimensional space,

While holding this apparatus in your hand, you may utter the command word “reprogramming.” For 1 hour thereafter, all nonliving objects, other than those stored in a vault, within 100 feet of you become instantly aware of their situation. They are immediately aware of anyone trying to access the area or tamper with the object. A goblin cannot touch a locked door, but will immediately know if another goblin attempts to unlock it. An empty closet does not become instantly aware of a thief who opens it. When reprogrammed, containers open or shift without warning. The table below lists several examples of ordinary objects as well as various nonstandard uses of this item.

Caption text
1 Hour After Uttering Command Word Situation Awareness
Non-living Objects +5 Level
Dead +1
3 Things Floating +5
12 Doors Shut 2d6 minutes before opening +5
Door Locks +4
Nothingness 5–6 minutes before becoming Something Deprived or Hidden 5
Inverted Room/Closet +5
That's my best interpretation of the text the AI gave me: "1 Hour After Uttering Command Word → Situation Awareness Non-living Objects+5 Level Dead ——+1 3 Things Floating ——+5 12 Doors Shut 2d6 minutes before opening ——+5 Door Locks ——+4 Nothingness 5–6 minutes before becoming Something Deprived or Hidden 5 Inverted Room/Closet ——+5"
Disappointingly, no garlic.

Theme-Driven[edit]

In this experiment, I wanted to see if the AI could create items around a theme.

I gave this prompt:

Magic Item Creator: Ruxinfruxin the Wizard
Bargle is a wizard who has created many magic items. Bargle's specialities are charms, enchantments, cooking, hiking, jade and diamonds.

Then prompted magic items beginning with "Ruxinfruxin's"

Ruxinfruxin's Diamond[edit]

Diamond, common

A black diamond carved into a four-sided shape. Its surface flashes white as light reflects off it. You might see this kind of gemstone in some high-end stores, especially in jewelry shops that sell rings and pendants.

Light the way. As a reaction to being touched by another magical item, you may designate this diamond as your means of illumination. It provides light for an hour, without producing sound. The diamond returns to its resting state when you stop touching it, unless another magical item or source activates it first.

Ruxinfruxin's Fiddle[edit]

Fiddle, rare (requires attunement)

While holding this fiddle, you may call forth its powers whenever you are singing the ancient song. While doing so, your singing must make at least half the creatures around you want to dance. While these creatures dance, they do so to your singing and resist the urge to stand still.

To play the fiddle itself, strike it with your left hand. It does what you command as though the fiddle were a magical instrument. If there are more than one player, each can perform separate commands with their own fiddles.

When you stop playing the fiddle, the song vanishes and its effects fade away. It loses all power while being played by anyone else and cannot be used again until you reattune it to yourself.

Ruxinfruxin's Table of Weight[edit]

The tablet is extremely thin. The tablet lists the weight of all known artifacts and creatures. Any artifact or creature weighing over 4 tons or a monster with at least 200 hit points cannot exist in your world unless specifically documented.

Ruxinfruxin's Portable Hallucination Table[edit]

Table, rare (10th level), masterwork (15 gp), two charges

This small table is round, polished to a high gloss, and covered in fine jade tiles. It holds up to three sheets of paper or parchment.

As an action, you can turn one sheet of paper into an illusory portrait of an object that appears in the space where you specify. Creatures that view the illusion see the item depicted in it, as though it were real, as long as they stay within 100 feet of it for at least 10 minutes. To do so costs 2 gp per charge expended, or half that amount for temporary paper that is returned to its original form.

Ruxinfruxin's Cloak of Elegance[edit]

Cloak, uncommon

While you wear this cloak, you don’t get pushed or pulled. You can pass through a space normally barred to others by means of this item as long as you remain standing. The cloak also nullifies all negative effects caused by your falling down, including attacks of opportunity.
