My Missions:[edit]
One of my goals as a Dungeon Master on this site is to provide balanced material for D&D 5th Edition that gives D&D an air of the Anime & video games that I am so fond of. The reason for this is because I have found that whenever I look for connections between Anime or video games and D&D, I see complicated, multi-classed monstrosities that would leave a new player terrified, a veteran player cross-eyed, and give Dungeon Masters young & old a headache. I am trying to create something that isn't as complicated, while at the same time has a familiar feel to the Anime or video games that might of motivated someone to play D&D for the first time.
As it stands right now, the main assignment currently on my plate involves dealing with one of the greatest headaches to have ever plagued D&D, the hero of the Legend of Zelda franchise, Link. Many arguments can be made about what class Link would belong to, and inevitably Link will end up as a chimera of classes. His usage of music on more than one occasion could make him a Bard of astonishing caliber, although his employment of both the bow and the multitude of different arrows he has used throughout his adventures would make him right at home as a Ranger, while his noble quest to fight for what is right is one that any Paladin would be proud to undertake, however none can ignore just how well suited Link is for the Fighter class, especially the Battlemaster subclass, and the knack he has for finding large chests filled with ancient treasure is a gift any Rogue would be proud to have. You see the problem, or need I continue? So, my plan to deal with this is to divide Link's skills into several different groups, ones that other video game heroes share or exhibit similar traits of, and make subclasses around those groups, with each subclass having its own distinct theme.
My talk page can be found here.
Works-in-Progress:[edit]
- Artificer Specialists
- Collector [Name pending] (Status: Work-in-Progress) Problem(s): Needs to be written.
- - This subclass for the Artificer is part of my plan for dealing with Link, whose employment of a diverse array of items and equipment is known far and wide. This characteristic of Link isn't exclusive to him, however, as heroes from video game series such as Devil May Cry, Castlevania, Darksiders, God of War, and any other puzzle-filled, adventure RPG, share this characteristic with Link. Playing off of the Artificer's dependency on items and equipment while on their adventures, I can create a subclass that will be motivated to use the items provided for them, unlike with other classes, where the class's main powers and abilities may overshadow the features of this subclass. The items that will be made available to this subclass will represent items that share similar functions across multiple, different games, such as the:
- - Hook Rifle, an item designed to help the Artificer reach far, out-of-reach places, which is inspired by items like the Hookshot from the Legend of Zelda series, the Grapple Launcher from the Batman Arkham series, and the Abyssal Chain from Darksiders 1.
- - Cannon Fist, an item designed to assist in the moving of heavy objects, which draws inspiration from items like the Power Gloves of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the Dark Gauntlet of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and the Quake Gauntlet from Darksiders 1.
- -This subclass will have two main mechanics, the first being access to an array of custom magic items, and the second being the ability to upgrade these magic items into more powerful versions. The idea behind the balancing is that in order to use their array of magic items, Artificers of this Specialty will have to refrain from equipping magic items acquired from their adventures. As for the upgrading, the Artificer will have to choose which ones to upgrade, with the item's name changing upon each upgrade.
- Primal Paths
- Bardic Colleges
- College of the Wilds (Status: Work-in-Progress) Problem(s): Being written.
- -This subclass goes off the idea behind the whistle, an "instrument" that nearly every creature possesses, and how it sees use as a means of both creating music and commanding beasts. It also plays a part in my plan for answering the problem of Link, by drawing off of Link's frequent usage of songs while on his adventures, as well as the ability to summon animal companions and mounts seen in games such as Darksiders 1, Darksiders 2, and Castlevania: Lords of Shadows. Since the ability to summon animals is limited to classes such as the Ranger & Druid, both of whom are entirely capable of attacking on their own, I don't see this ability as something that will be lost on the Bard, who at the core is a support class.
- Divine Domains
- Druidic Circles
- Martial Archetypes
- Monastic Traditions
- Way of the Focused Fist (Status: Work-In-Progress) Problem(s): Being revised.
- - My goal with this Monk subclass is to give the player a feel for the must-have of any good 'Fighting' Anime, the "Super Form", a feeling that can't quite be achieved through the commonly used Barbarian 'Way of the Berserker' and Monk 'Way of the Open Fist' cross-classing.
- Sacred Oaths
- Ranger Archetypes
- Roguish Archetypes
- Sorcerous Origins
- Otherwordly Patrons
- Eldritch Invocations
- Pact Boons
- Arcane Traditions
- Combat Manuevers
- Magic Items
Playable Works:[edit]
- Note
- Everything in this section has reached a state of completion that would be considered usable for a game of D&D. They are NOT however, completely balanced out, and are therefore susceptible to tweeks, adjustments, and other such changes at any given time. When playing as, or otherwise using, something from this section, always check up on the corresponding page to see if anything has changed since you last looked.
