Energy Effect Notes - Probably going to scrap and do effects individually[edit]

If an ability, spell, or other effect is specifically designated as a negative energy effect:

  • If it deals hit point damage to living creatures, it instead deals this damage to living creatures without the negative subtype and to deathless creatures. It restores the same amount of hit points to injured creatures with the negative subtype and to undead creatures.
  • If it deals ability damage or ability drain to living creatures, it instead deals this damage or drain to living creatures without the negative subtype and to deathless creatures. If it deals ability damage to living creatures without the negative subtype, it heals the same amount of ability damage, in the same ability score, to creatures with the negative subtype and to undead creatures. If it deals ability drain to living creatures without the negative subtype, it heals the same amount of ability score loss (be it damage or drain), in the same ability score, to creatures with the negative subtype and to undead creatures. Ability damage is healed before ability drain is.
  • If it deals negative levels to living creatures, it instead deals these negative levels to living creatures without the negative subtype. It instead grants a number of hit points equal to five times the number of negative levels it would normally drain to creatures with the negative subtype and to undead creatures. These temporary hit points last for 1 hour. Even if dealing negative levels normally gives the creature that dealt them some benefit, granting temporary hit points in this way does not.
  • If it imposes a condition (such as fatigue or stunning) on a living creature, it instead imposes this condition on living creatures without the negative subtype and to deathless creatures. This does not circumvent any immunities that a creature may have as a result of its type. It instead removes the same condition from creatures with the negative subtype and from undead creatures. If the target is enhausted and the effect would remove the fatigued condition, the condition is reduced to fatigue. If the target is frightened and the effect would remove the shaken condition, the condition is reduced to shaken. If the target is panicking and the effect would remove the shaken condition, the condition is reduced to frightened. If the target is panicking and the effect would remove the frightened condition, the condition is reduced to shaken.
  • Otherwise, it has no effect on creatures with the negative subtype and undead creatures.

The reverses of the above are also true, both in reversing the places of positive and negative, and in reversing the effects.
