Urak Tuu (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Urak Tuu[edit]
“ | They say there's a race of people.. well not quite people more like things. From what I head they don't appear dangerous just ... how do I say ... a little grotesque. Faceless beings that can still eat and speak and see same as you or I and completely composed of earth. I presume that some dark forces may be involved so we must exercise caution if we are to continue to study them. | ” |
—Bregan Artus, Scholar on the Urak Tuu |
Physical Description[edit]
Their humanoid-shaped bodies are completely formed of various types of stone dependent on the individual. Multiple, if not all, facial features are completely absent and replaced by cracks, changes in rock shape, or glowing spots of heated rock that simulate vague facial features. They lack any gender related features as they are not naturally born. Long arms that can go past their knees are extremely common, but not always present. They can be made of any rock, from multilayered-tan sandstone to sharp black obsidian. No matter their level of strength they all have a very emaciated look, like the ashen souls left after a volcanic eruption. Despite the lack of eyes, special stones used for sensory simulation are embedded throughout their body which allow them to "see," "touch," and "hear." These stones are also believed to allow them to talk.
History[edit]
The urak tuu claim their name from a civilization called Urak'Tu. This civilization was buried beneath a catastrophic volcanic eruption. Supposedly, the impetus was that Urak'Tu was a divine affront due to being a hub of forbidden magic practitioners that offended elementals in particular. Overnight, a volcano spawned and erupted, blanketing all of Urak'Tu within fire and lava, effectively wiping it off the map. As the volcano receded, the subsequent tremors plunged any remnant of Urak'Tu deep into the earth. However, the well of forbidden magic was not quelled. It seeped out following the destruction of Urak'Tu and believed to have taken root in certain stones. These stones sought out the petrified bodies from the wreckage deep within the earth and animated them once more, though they were no longer who they once were. It took several millennia before a mass of urak tuu were finally able to claw their way to the surface en masse. Emerging from the grave site of their civilization, they were regarded at first to be undead. However, the urak tuu displayed little to no hostilities, merely confusion at the world above they had no idea about.
Society[edit]
The urak tuu live in small camps outside of towns and in very arid places. The ones who live outside of towns are usually adverse to confrontation and fear ostracism. While they retain nothing of the original memories from the lost civilization, they still have human-like emotions and minds. They are also somewhat aware of a rejection of their existence that led to this form of theirs which others fear. Due to this lost nature, urak tuu are very open to serving deities and magical entities of various alignments, sort of like searching for a fit. They desire to belong and understand, rather than end up with a meaningless existence. Thus, though they fear being singled out, they nonetheless remain within proximity of other creatures. Usually, urak tuu share similar paths and travel together when they must move camp. It is not uncommon of them to be welcoming to other nomads who may wish to temporarily travel with them. They also tend to look with empathy at other societal oddities like tieflings. This is aided by the fact urak tuu innately know the Infernal language, which is believed to be residual from the legacy of the dark magic that destroyed their civilzation.
Urak Tuu Names[edit]
Urak tuu either name themselves using scrap knowledge of other cultures or they are given names by those who are kind enough to show them kindness, which they value above all else. They also lack gender specific names as they lack gender identification. They sometimes adopt gendered names but they do not always understand the connotations behind it.
Names: Moarthal, Andraan, Katruun, Qu'duarn, Varsux

Vestiges of a fallen civilization raised by their dark mistakes

Size. Your height can go from 5 and a half feet to 7 feet tall. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Rock Steady. Your earthy carapace is a form of natural armor. While unarmored, your armor class is equal to 12 + your Dexterity modifier. You can still use a shield and gain this benefit.
Pumice-born. You are resistant to fire damage.
Sensor Stones. Lacking conventional eyes, you are immune to being blinded. You can perceive your surroundings without relying on sight within a specific radius. You have a blindsight range of 60 feet, but are blind beyond this radius.
Risen Body. You are a petrified body animated by dark magics. Your creature type is Undead instead of Humanoid. As such, spells like cure wounds don't affect you, and you are immune to spells like crown of madness or dominate person because they specifically target Humanoids. You are immune to poison damage, being poisoned, and diseases. You do not need to eat or breathe, and any food you do attempt to eat falls through the space where your head would be and into the bottom of your armor. Rather than sleeping, you enter an inactive state for 6 hours each day. You do not dream in this state; you are fully aware of your surroundings and notice approaching enemies and other events as normal.
Emberous Soul. The firepower of nature remains within your body. You can cast the heat metal once, without material components or spell slots, regaining use when you finish a short or long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting modifier for this spell.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Infernal. When you speak, the tone emits from within your body, similar to how a speaker reverberates. You can talk even though you do not have a mouth.
