Umbrin[edit]

Why do you think I shouldn't just banish you on the spot, you foul fiend? The cleric lifted up his holy symbol, preparing to bring holy judgement. In front of him stood what looked like a shadow, a silhouette of a man that moved in a nebulous, erratic fashion.

What makes you think I'm foul? or even a fiend for that matter? All I want- The dark figure momentarily paused, wondering if this overzealous cleric would even care.

All I want is to see the light.

Physical Description[edit]

Born from the darkest depths of the Underdark, umbrin appear as a mere shadow of a humanoid, with a paper-thin body and very few discernible features other than the occasional eye-holes. They often resemble an already existing humanoid, such as a historical icon or another adventurer. Very few actually meet or know about the person they look like, and is usually just a cosmetic similarity. The movements of an umbrin are somewhat jittery and chaotic, often resembling a shamble more than a walk. Some have said this movement akin to "a training dummy filled with rats," which is a somewhat accurate representation.

History[edit]

The first umbrin were formed when the spirit of a long dead god drifted to the Underdark, fusing its leftover energy with the very essence of darkness that fills every corridor. These "proto-umbrin" were much more violent and tribal, attacking unlucky travelers who wandered too far into the darkness. However, seemingly at random, the umbrin shifted from violent warring things to humble harbingers of peace that lurked in the shadows. Not many umbrin recall the past before this, so it is unknown how and exactly when this happened.

Society[edit]

Umbrin society is somewhat paradoxical, as they are heavily fascinated by the very thing they are made from the absence of: Light. Most of their mythology and religions revolve around light, and most umbrin adventurers go to the surface due to great legends of beauty and color beyond one could comprehend. Umbrin also really like shiny things, as one would expect. Most of their villages and towns are formed from loose coins or shiny rocks, making it highly reflective. Due to the fact that they aren't really made of flesh, they also have no natural predators that would want to eat them, nor do they need to eat anything else. Umbrin also have no concept of gender, often going by they or it pronouns.

Umbrin Names[edit]

Umbrin naming is often very simple, as they only have a first name, and it really just an alias in truth. Their names are often genderless in nature, due to their society being mostly genderless as well.

Names: Desim, Deto, Io, Limn, Sepel, Un, Xel
