Umbrella Savant (5e Subclass)
From D&D Wiki
Umbrella Savant[edit]
Fighter Subclass
Umbrella savants are fighters that master the art of battling with a largely unassuming object - the umbrella. Using this everyday item, they can unleash devastating strikes, use trick maneuvers and cover themselves using its panels. Their umbrellas are often modified, being sturdier and more resilient than their regular counterparts.
These savantants behave with class and grace, never resorting to violence unless it is the ultimate option, but always prepared for combat, despite their apparent lack of defensive resources.
- Umbrella Tinkerer
Starting at 3rd level, you are able to craft and repair umbrellas. You gain proficiency with the cobbler's and the tinker's tools, and you can craft any type of umbrella - magic or otherwise, with half the cost in gold and half the time.
- Umbrella Combat
At 3rd level, you are a master in using umbrellas in combat. When using a umbrella weapon, that are the Umbrella of Pei or the Battle Umbrella and not wearing armor, your AC equals 10 + your proficiency bonus + your Dexterity modifier. In addition, you can also use your Dexterity modifier for attacks and damage rolls with umbrella weapons.
In addition, you gain the following benefits when using those umbrellas:
- Quick Strikes: When you make an attack with a umbrella weapon, you can make another attack with it as a bonus action on your turn.
- Defensive Cover: When you are wielding an umbrella, you can use your bonus action to open it, giving you half cover until the start of your next turn.
- Hooking Strike: You can use the hook end on the umbrella to better grapple or disarm an opponent. When wielding an umbrella, you have Advantage on Strength (Athletics) checks made to disarm or grapple an opponent.
- Etiquette
At 7th level, you are the pinnacle of courtesy. You gain proficiency in Persuasion, and add twice your proficiency bonus in checks with it if you already are proficient.
In addition, your polite and unassuming appearance can take your opponents by surprise. If you are wielding an umbrella, and not wielding another weapon, your opponents are considered surprised by you in the first turn of combat. This doesn't work if you are surprised, by an opponent, or if the opponent has seen you fighting using the umbrella.
- Concealed Strike
When you reach the 10th level, on your first turn of combat, you can take your opponents by surprise when turning the simple umbrella in a lethal weapon. You have Advantage on all attacks made with an umbrella on your first turn of combat. On a hit, the attacks made during that turn cause additional 2d6 damage.
- Swift Parry
A 15th level, you can easily deflect strikes made against you. When you are wielding an umbrella on your hand and nothing on the other, whenever you are hit by a melee weapon attack, you can roll a d6 as a reaction. On a 4 or higher, that attack is a miss instead.
- Feign Incompetence
When you reach 18th level, you learn how to use your politeness, apparent lack of aggressivity and weapon of choice to goad your opponents into disregarding you, leaving openings for your strikes. Any creature that haven't been attacked by you during an encounter is considered indifferent towards you. You can use concealed strike against any creature indifferent towards you.
If you reduce a creature to 0 hit points during an encounter, any creature that sees it is immune to this feature for the next 24 hours.
