Screech (Ex) | A tripewhelp can attack creatures with deafening blasts of noise. This is a ranged touch attack with a maximum reach of 60 ft. (no range increment). A foe that takes 2 or more points of sonic damage from a tripewhelp's screech must succeed on a DC 11 Fortitude save or be deafened for 1 round. The save DC is Charisma-based. |
Blindsight (Ex) | A tripewhelp can ascertain all foes within 60 feet. Beyond that range it is considered blinded. Tripewhelps are invulnerable to gaze attacks, visual effects of spells such as illusions, and other attack forms that rely on sight. A tripewhelp whose sense of hearing is impaired is effectively blinded, treating all targets as having total concealment. |
Immunities | Tripewhelps have immunity to gaze attacks, visual effects, illusions, and other attack forms that rely on sight. |
Skills | A tripewhelp has a +4 racial bonus on Listen checks. |
The fat, bulldog-shaped lump before you is constructed from grayed skin and flesh along with bone matter. There's no neck, with the creature's shoulders instead terminating into a gaping hole filled with vertical bone tubes. It would be hideous, if it weren't for the air flowing through the tubes creating an adorable sound, somewhere between a melodious purr and a whispered song.
Tripewhelps are a race of undead constructs, given life by concentrations of negative energy. In appearance, they resemble a heavy-set bulldog, but are made of scrap pieces of bone, tendon and sinew. Instead of a face, a tripewhelp has a massive round mouth with tubes of bone that extend from top to bottom. The intervals between the "teeth" show the creature's empty gullet. Thorn-like gray hair forms a mane on the creatures back. Tripewhelps weight about 50 pounds. They are unable to speak, but whistle when angry or excited. Tripewhelps are blind, but make up for it with fantastic hearing.
Combat[edit]
Tripewhelps are created by necromancers first and foremost as companions, but can double as guard dogs if need be. They can concentrate their whistling screech on a single point, creating a devastating sound that can deafen those it focuses on. Tripewhelps always use their screech attack instead of their feeble slam if possible. Tripewhelps are commonly employed by necromancers in packs, or occasionally as a familiar.
