Tiny Dragonbeast[edit]

Dragon gnomes hm? Well, I guess to a real dragon, even a gnome is an ant after all...

Physical Description[edit]

Tiny dragonbeasts are similar to their speed cousins of dragonbeast kind in that they can walk upright. They are very small however, never reaching even three feet in height. Their faces are mischievous and pointed, with almost gnomish features. This, coupled with their size, has earned them the nickname of "gnome of the dragons" since they still have the scales and other traits normal in dracofied creatures. A majority of their body weight is attributed to a specialized organ in their body, which is an overdeveloped part of their body allowing for their breath weapon as well as continuous burning.

History[edit]

All dragonbeasts in general are believed to be a result of a phenomena known as dracofication. Supposedly, following the waning power during the Time of Dragons and the rise of the Untheric empire, Tiamat was raising horrid spawn in her battles against Bahamut. Among these activities, her followers sought to keep their faith amid the apathy towards the draconic gods. They wanted to aid her in her battle, and so tried to replicate the spawning process. Their methods used other creatures as bases for draconification, which imbued powers and properties of dragons into them. What made this truly a horrible act was that the essence they imbued these creatures with was that of the chaotic Tiamat herself. Thus, many of these creatures could not live through the process and degenerated.

Tiny dragonbeasts are physically alienated for their size from other dragonbeasts. They are even smaller than speed dragonbeasts, which makes one wonder what creature was able to survive dracofication, being smaller than even a kobold. It is believed that tiny dragonbeasts have a more developed mental faculty, which allowed for them to communicated more effectively with other races, thus securing their survival through means other than fighting.

Society[edit]

Tiny dragonbeasts are drawn to coniferous settings, since the foliage provides for cover and even hinders larger creatures. They usually make it a habit of theirs to actively map out entire swaths of territories before settling down. Their homes are typically well camouflaged within hollows of trees. One may know the signs of their little settlements if they see little bridges disguised as liana among tree branches. They usually are neighbors with smaller creatures like tiny fey.
Due to their size, tiny dragonbeasts like to use means of wit over strength. They tend to be sociable towards other races, particularly those with lots of influence, like elves or humans. Their expertise as spies is often sought after, particularly where cults of dragons are involved. Though they give an outward front, tiny dragonbeasts rarely trust those other than their own kind, and they rely heavily on coordinated combat tactics to best larger enemies.

Tiny Dragonbeast Names[edit]

Normally they have asexual names. It is considered funny or even familial to refer to one another with a "little" at the beginning of an address.

Names: Kleiner, Pequen, Peti, Smalls, Kowa

Tiny Dragonbeast Traits[edit]

Design Note: This race uses the Tiny size. It is recommended you take a look at tiny size guidelines before playing.

Tiny, sociable, dracofied creatures
Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and either your Charisma or Intelligence score increases by 1.
Age. They mature around 10 and live to 150.
Alignment. They tend to be neutral but lean to good or evil depending on who they hang around.
Size. Tiny dragonbeasts range from 1 to 2 feet. Your size is Tiny.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Propane Flame. For a little fighter, you sure have a big breath. You can use an action to exhale a breath of fire in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 fire damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. Flammable objects not being worn in the range of this attack are ignited. You must finish a short or long rest before using this trait again.
Tiny Evader. Your small size makes you harder to hit. You may Dodge as a bonus action once, regaining use of this trait after you finish a short or long rest.
Hiss. Your evolved fire sac allows you to continuously produce smaller flames when you are not using it to burn enemies. As a bonus action, you can continuously hiss and ignite a small flame from your lips and nostrils, shining bright light up to 20 feet from you, and 20 feet of dim light after. This flame goes out after 1 minute, or if you use your bonus action to end it.
Silver Tongue. You are proficient in the Deception and Persuasion skills.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic.
