For convenience, the following is used:

  • ASBI stands for after the Steel Beam Incident
  • BSBI stands for before the Steel Beam Incident

During the battle he fatally injured the Owl, resulting in the Commission of Counter Ghoul's victory. In current times, Yukinori Shinohara and Iwao Kuroiwa have encountered Owl in the halls of building three. Seeing Owl just ahead of them, they contact Itsuki Marude, updating him on current events. He orders them to use as little people as possible to prevent pointless deaths. After sending off investigators, including Koutarou Amon, Shinohara and the rest prepare for battle.

C. 9 BSBI Subjugation of the Corpse Collector[edit]

A flashback exhibits how investigators Yukinori Shinohara and Kureo Mado searched for the children of the Corpse Collector. They questioned the residents in the neighborhood to gain clues about their whereabouts. Meanwhile, Ayato and Touka Kirishima waited for their father to arrive home. Satou came to visit them and bring food. Suspecting that they were ghouls, Satou questioned them as to why they refused to eat her dish, and finally, she forcefully fed the dish to Ayato. The investigators observing the scene witnessed Satou's pointer and concluded that the children were ghouls so they rushed into the room to capture the siblings. In defense, Touka activated her kagune and attacked one of the investigators and escaped with Ayato. Years later, as teens, they became reckless ghouls. They are approached by Shuu, who is looking for a same-species snack and they fight him off. They were often scolded by Yoshimura. At Yoshimura's suggestion, Touka started going to school and blending into human society. Her relationship with Ayato gradually deteriorated due to their different perspectives on living in the human world. Ayato left the shared apartment and went to the 14th Ward, where he caused havoc in the feeding grounds.

0 ASBI Steel Beams Incident[edit]

After their date, Rize Kamishiro tricked Ken Kaneki into escorting her down an isolated alleyway near a construction site. There, she revealed herself to be a ghoul and attacked him with the intention of devouring him. He was critically injured in the attack, but survived when steel beams dropped on Rize and crushed her. The accident drew the attention of nearby pedestrians, who called for emergency services to help the victims. Kaneki and Rize would both be sent to Kanou General Hospital, where they became the patients of Dr. Akihiro Kanou. Reporting that the girl was already deceased, he transplanted Rize's kakuhou into Kaneki and converted him into a one-eyed ghoul. The unauthorized transplant drew considerable media attention, and Dr. Kanou faced heavy criticism for performing an organ transplant without permission from the families of his patients. Itori hinted that someone had been seen at the construction site, and that Rize had actually been murdered. This drove Kaneki to seek the truth about the incident, looking for both Rize's past and Dr. Kanou for several months. He would eventually learn that Rize had survived, and was being exploited by Dr. Kanou as a donor for further ghoulification experiments. During the Owl Suppression Operation, a critically-wounded Kaneki recalled having seen the Clown Souta at the scene of the accident. Four years later Kaneki confronts Souta and questions why he was targeted as a victim for the accident. Souta replies his real target was Rize herself so he could give her to Kanou because of Souta's desire that she does not have children with another man. He further elaborates that Kaneki's involvement was a coincidence and not personal.

During the event, members of the club lured victims to the restaurant in order for them to be murdered in a "Dismantling" show. Afterwards, the bodies would be served to the guests as fine dining. As part of a deal with Itori, Ken Kaneki accepted the invitation to the restaurant in order to learn its location and the method of gaining entry. Lured there by member Shuu Tsukiyama, Kaneki was left in a private room with two other guests invited to the event — Food Critic Kobachi and a woman named Ami. The three were led into what turned out to be an arena, and presented to the audience as that night's entertainment and dinner. Madam A's scrapper, Taro, was dispatched to carry out the killing. 0 ASBI 11th Ward Battle[edit]

Prelude[edit]

After having suppressed the local ghouls of the 11th Ward, Aogiri Tree started attacks on the CCG investigators in the ward, which incapacitated the CCG's local branch. In immediate response, ghoul investigators were deployed to the 11th Ward and adjacent wards to contain the threat and protect the public, and in addition preparations were started for an operation to oust Aogiri Tree from the 11th Ward and destroy Aogiri's base there. A special task force to carry out the operation under Itsuki Marude's command, the 11th Ward Special Countermeasures Unit, was formed by pulling investigators from other wards. A significant contribution to the strength to this unit came from the CCG's forces in the 23rd Ward. Meanwhile, Ken Kaneki had been kidnapped from Anteiku by Yamori, Nico and Ayato Kirishima as commanded by Tatara, and was brought to Aogiri Tree's 11th Ward Base. During a meething, Tatara confirmed his suspicions about Akihiro Kanou and deemed Kaneki useless. He left it up to Ayato what to do with Kaneki. As he concluded the meeting, he handed command to Noro and left the base with Eto. After a failed escape attempt by Banjou's comrades and Kaneki, Kaneki was forced to submit to Yamori, while Banjou and his comrades were confined by Yamori contrary to his promise. He brought Kaneki to his playroom, where he tortured Kaneki from December 9th to December 19th and killed Kei and Kouto before Kaneki's eyes. In order to rescue Kaneki, the members of Anteiku had also infiltrated the base beforehand. The operation began on the evening of December 19th, earlier than Aogiri Tree's leadership had expected, thanks to a tip-off by an anonymous informant.

Course of the Battle[edit]

In the evening of December 19, 0 ASBI at 20:00, the 11th Ward Special Countermeasures Unit began its assault on Aogiri's base, however, the assault was halted by Aogiri ghouls armed with guns, a sniper among them. Around 23:05, Aogiri's sniper was taken out through the efforts of Itsuki Marude and Juuzou Suzuya. The CCG swiftly took control of Buildings 1-2 until 0:22, while their assault on Building 5 was blocked by Ayato Kirishima. Meanwhile, Yamori returned to the detached building behind Building 5 to kill Ken Kaneki, but instead, Kaneki turned the tables on him, ate two of his kakuhous and left him to die or be killed. Next, Kaneki freed Kazuichi Banjou and his other surviving comrades from the cell in the building next to Yamori's hobby building and they left that place. Around the same time, Anteiku had found out about the place where Kaneki was mostly likely imprisoned, and began moving towards it from Building 8 through Buildings 7 and 6. The further advance through Building 5 was blocked by CCG troops, so Anteiku split up: While Renji Yomo, Uta and Shuu Tsukiyama would fight their way through the CCG troops, Touka and Nishiki were looking for an alternate route. Along that alternate route, they ran into Ayato. Furthermore, because of the advance of CCG troops through Building 3, Yoshimura decided to move. In the meantime, Juuzou had found Yamori in the detached building behind Building 5. Yamori used the kagune from his third and last kakuhou to attack Juuzou, but Juuzou quickly butchered and killed him. At the end of Building 3, CCG's troops encountered the One-Eyed Owl. Due to the immense threat of this ghoul, they decided to split their forces: While Special Classes Yukinori Shinohara and Iwao Kuroiwa, First Class Take Hirako and some other CCG troops were to engage Owl, the other investigators including Koutarou Amon were ordered to Building 7. On the roof of Building 5, Ayato defeated Touka and bit off flesh from her shoulder. When he appeared to be about to finish her off, Kaneki rescued Touka. Next, Kaneki engaged Ayato, revealed that Ayato was secretly trying to protect his sister, and after he defeated him, he broke half of his bones to teach him a lesson. Then, Noro appeared, but before a fight between Kaneki and Noro could break out, Yomo, Uta and Tsukiyama intefered. They attacked Noro and split his body in two, however, the body parts were immediately pulled together. After an alarm went off, Noro stopped acting aggressively, took Ayato and left. Instead of following Noro, Kaneki, Yomo, Uta and Tsukiyama decided to leave the building, too. Concurrently, Shinohara and Kuroiwa were engaging Owl using their Arata proto quinques. Using the cover of the attacks by the Special Classes, Hirako attempted a surprise attack on Owl; however, the surprise attack failed. Deeming that there was no other way to victory, they decided to use an experimental feature of the Arata quinque that eats the user. This increased the strength of their attacks, allowing them to momentarily overwhelm Owl, however, Shinohara quickly became incapacitated due to Arata's safety function misbehaving. Subsequently, Owl stopped the fight and left. Around the same time, the other investigators were taking control of Building 7. The Bin brothers were slain by First Class Koutarou Amon. After Owl had left and the operation was close to the end, Marude was informed by Kishou Arima that the base was a diversion and that Aogiri's main force carried out the Second Cochlea Raid. Arima asked Marude to send troops to Cochlea in order to fend off Aogiri.

In particular, Arima Squad alias Squad 0 was tasked with defending Cochlea during the main assault. The invasion began at dawn on December 13th. Prior to the operation, a reconnaissance investigation was conducted by the Hachikawa Squad on suspicion of Aogiri activity.

4 ASBI Third Cochlea Raid[edit]

At the pre-dawn of December 19th, the seventh day of the Rushima Landing Operation, Cochlea's defense was penetrated by a rogue team of ghouls led by Ayato Kirishima, while the former investigator Haise Sasaki released its prisoners. Their primary goal was the rescue of Hinami Fueguchi, who was currently imprisoned in Cochlea.
