The Timeborn (3.5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
The Timeborn[edit]
Personality[edit]
The Timeborn are creatures of infinite wisdom, forced to watch every potential outcome that the world's actions can lead to at any given moment of the day. This fact has made them rash in their desire to see the timeline flow as smoothly as it can towards what they perceive as the true ending of time. They're awkward, unable to hone their social abilities due to the constant visions of grandeur and destruction. Don't be fooled, though. The Timeborn can focus their mind in combat, eliminating all other distractions as they perform whatever deed needs to be done to achieve their true ending. The visions have a slight tendency to creep up on them, but generally fall short of dominating the Timeborn's sheer determination. Outside of combat, the Timelords are often passed by unawares as they stare into some distant future. A Timeborn can never see into the past, or any events taking place at the present time.
Physical Description[edit]
The Timeborn are generally perceived as different races from what they truly are, their outward appearance being chosen by whatever divine being created them. They often appear human, but being made in the image of gnomes or elves isn't unheard of. Inevitably, any race can be used to disguise the true nature of the Timeborn. The only truth-revealing marks that stamp a creature as a Timeborn is the minute hand of a grandfather clock, which often appears within a single eye or tattooed onto the body, and their tendency to have silver and golden hair.
Relations[edit]
The Timeborn see the other races of the world as tools to achieve their true ending. They're often more friendly towards the races that generally mean well, or those that favor nature. The race least likely to find favorable interactions with a Timeborn is the Human race, which is known for its deep roots in destruction across the many branching timelines.
Alignment[edit]
Though the majority of the Timeborn are Neutral-Good, it isn't unheard of to have Timeborn of all alignments depending on their own personal ideas of what the true ending will be.
Lands[edit]
The Timeborn tie themselves to the lands that they seek to protect, living within these places until the next event in the timeline occurs. The Timeborn aren't known to be held to any particular land more than others.
Religion[edit]
The Timeborn often ignore the fragile concept of religion, realizing that in the end it only serves to fuel the destruction that spreads across the realms. Despite this fact, a Timeborn is highly unlikely to challenge the concept of religion, realizing that doing so will yield no event-changing outcome.
Language[edit]
The Timeborn are known to speak all languages, including those than would be secret to other races or classes.
Names[edit]
The Timeborn are generally named after any measurement of time or space. (EX. Minuth, Secryph, Hourth, etc.)
Racial Traits[edit]
- Stat Adjustments: +2 Strength, +2 Dexterity, +2 Wisdom, -2 Constitution, -2 Intelligence, -2 Charisma: Timeborn find strength in knowing that their true ending is approaching, and their ability to look into the future of the many timelines makes them wise and helps them to predict any harm that may come to them. Adversely, they're slowly being consumed by time and their constant visions, making their bodies frail and both their actions and words rash.
- Humanoid: Timeborn are created this way to avoid receiving too much attention while they push towards their goals.
- Size: Medium
- Speed: The Timeborn have a base land speed of 35 feet, whether small or medium.
- Frozen in Time (Su): Instead of being killed or having their souls torn from their body, the Timeborn are instead frozen within the fabric of time. Only effects such as Wish, Unlimited Wish and True Resurrection can return them to their living state.
- Caught Between Timelines (Su): Once per day, a Timeborn may force a re-roll, choosing to anchor themselves to a timeline that better suits the means to their true end. This can be used to re-roll attack or damage rolls made against them, similar rolls that they make against others, saves, healing effects made against them, etc.
- Ageless Existence (Su): Timeborn do not age as with the other races. They cannot qualify for bonuses or penalties due to aging.
- Temporal Insight: Timeborn provide their party with a +1 bonus to Saves, Attack Rolls and Skill Checks (Increasing to +2 at 5th level, +3 at 10th, +4 at 15th and +5 at 20th.) This bonus is passive.
- Automatic Languages: Common. Bonus languages can be any spoken language, not excluding secret languages such a druidic.
- Favored Class: Chronoblade.
- Level Adjustment: +0
