The Ouroboros (5e Subclass)
From D&D Wiki
The Ouroboros[edit]
Warlock Subclass
In the far off future, something terrible has occurred. A dark ritual to rewrite the universe gone wrong, a pompous, evil god taking on more than they can handle. No matter the cause, reality itself has collapsed and only a handful of individuals were able to do something about it. Among those who escaped the cataclysm was you. At the end of all your adventures, you attained great power or were tasked by a higher power to fix their mistakes. Regardless, you were thrust into the time stream, going back to before it was all destroyed. You have made contact with your past self, but now acting as a guide who can only hint rather than a savior to fix the mistakes of the past.
Expanded Spell List[edit]
The Ouroboros lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.
Spell Level | Spells |
---|---|
1st | gift of alacrity, silvery barbs |
2nd | blur, fortune's favor |
3rd | clairvoyance, haste |
4th | confusion, divination |
5th | reincarnate, temporal shunt |
9th | time stop |
- Branching Timelines
Starting at 1st level, you influence the time stream to create the inverse of what would normally happen. When an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw is rolled within 60 feet of you, you can use your reaction to change the d20 to the direct opposite of what was rolled (based on the die itself). You can do this after you see the roll, but before the DM says whether or not it succeeds.
You can use this reaction once per long rest.
This increases to twice at 6th level, and three times at 14th level.
- Faulty Cycle
Also at 1st level, you draw on the vitality you have yet to gain. As an action, you can roll up to half your warlock Hit Dice (rounded up), and gain the total as temporary hit points. If these temporary hit points are depleted before the end of combat, you do not regain the expended Hit Dice until you finish 1d4 long rests.
You can use this feature once per long rest.
- Neutral Actions
At 6th level, you peer into the future in order to take actions that will not jeopardize it. You learn augury. It counts as a warlock spell for you, does not count against the total number of spells you can learn, and you can cast it once per short or long rest without expending a spell slot.
In addition, when you would roll damage for a warlock spell, you can forgo rolling and instead take the average. You can do this a number of times per long rest equal to your Charisma modifier.
- The Cycle Begins Again
Starting at 10th level, the perpetual cycle of events intervenes at the proper time. When you are killed by non-natural causes, you are put under the effects of reincarnate and brought back with your maximum Hit Points.
Once this occurs, the cycle cannot begin anew for 7 days.
- The Power to Change the Future
Beginning at 14th level, you reverse the flow of time to chart a better course. After you see the result of an action you take (casting a spell, interacting with an object, etc.), you can go back in time to just before you took that action. If you wish to do so after casting a spell, you must activate this ability after the results of the attack roll or saving throw. When you do so, you must take a different action than before and cannot tell others what you know.
You can use this feature once per long rest.
