Warlock Subclass
Description[edit]
Your patron is a great Necromancer, perhaps a Lich or some other being with a strong affinity for the school of Necromacy magic. You may have chosen to be a student, been forcibly taken for experimentation, or even been "blessed" to carry out this being's will. Either way, your patron's power strengthens you and grants you dominion over the dead.
Expanded Spell List[edit]
1st-level The Necromancer Patron feature
The Necromancer Patron lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.
Spell Level | Spells |
---|---|
1st | false life, inflict wounds |
2nd | melf's acid arrow, blindness/deafness |
3rd | stinking cloud, speak with dead |
4th | vitriolic sphere, death ward |
5th | antilife shell, raise dead |
Initiate in Necromancy[edit]
1st-level The Necromancer Patron feature
At 1st level, the Warlock learns one necromancy cantrip of his or her choice from any spell list. This cantrip counts as a warlock cantrip for you, and any eldritch invocations that affect the Eldritch Blast cantrip now also affects this cantrip.
Also at 1st level, your command of the undead affects the will of those who aren't under your control. Whenever an undead creature tries to attack you, it must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save, its attack misses and, if its Intelligence is 4 or lower, it becomes friendly to you and your allies.
Undead Thralls[edit]
6th-level The Necromancer Patron feature
At 6th level, you learn the animate dead spell. When you cast animate dead, you can target one additional corpse or pile of bones, creating another zombie or skeleton, as appropriate and you don't need to recast it to maintain the undead under your control. Any spell that allows you to control undead creatures also works differently for you, having the following effects:
- You can use your bonus action to control all undead in your command.
- You can only control a number of undead equal to twice your proficiency bonus.
- They add your warlock level to their maximum hit points.
Mastery over Undeath[edit]
10th-level The Necromancer Patron feature
At 10th level, your patron's powers have a profound effect on your body and magic. You don't need to eat, drink, or breathe.
In addition, the negative energy that flows through you reinforces your thralls against those who would seek to destroy or control your servants. The undead you control can't be turned or forcefully controlled by another creature while you are conscious.
Master Necromancer[edit]
14th-level The Necromancer Patron feature
At 14th level, your mastery over the dead has become even more powerful. The undead under your command gain the following benefits:
- Whenever you roll initiative and are not surprised, you can choose to command them to either move up to their movement speed or attack once.
- They add your proficiency bonus to theirs weapon damage rolls.
