The Host (5e Subclass)
From D&D Wiki
The Host[edit]
Warlock Subclass
Warlocks are an inherently eclectic people. Some gain their powers from infernal demons, others from celestial angels. Some use their powers to protect their friends, others to take revenge on their enemies. The sole uniting trait of warlocks is that all have made great sacrifices for their abilities.
You may be the exception - you won your powers in a sort of gameshow. Perhaps your trivia prowess carried you to the grand prize table, or your social politics left you the last contestant voted out. In any case, you have earned an array of prizes from a powerful being who favors bombast and showmanship above all else.
Expanded Spell List[edit]
As your first prize, The Host grants you a brand of magic focussed on entertainment and spectacle. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.
Spell Level | Spells |
---|---|
1st | command, hideous laughter |
2nd | detect thoughts, jim's glowing coin |
3rd | fast friends, fireball[1] |
4th | phantasmal killer, secret chest |
5th | animate objects, creation |
Showbiz Skillset & Stardom[edit]
Performance is added to your warlock skill list, and you are considered proficient in it if you are not already.
If at any time you would become proficient in a Warlock skill you are already proficient in, you can gain stardom in that skill instead - which means your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make with it. This cannot be applied to a skill that is already benefiting from a feature, such as Expertise, that doubles your proficiency bonus.
Variety Showcase[edit]
At 6th level, you gain an extra eldritch invocation slot. This slot can only be used for invocations exclusive to The Host patron (for convenience, these are listed below). When you gain a level, you can switch out this invocation for a different one you qualify for.
Door Number 1, Door Number 2, or Door Number 3?[edit]
Starting at 10th level, you can play a game with your patron for temporary extra abilities.
When you finish a long rest, you can spend 10 minutes calling upon your patron. In response, your patron sends you 3 sheets of parchment, numbered 1-3. On each parchment, write the name of 2 first level spells. The spells can come from the Wizard or warlock spell list, and need not be from the same list. However, no spell can be written down more than once. Afterwards, your patron takes the parchments back.
Roll a D4. Until your next long rest, you can cast the spells on the corresponding parchment at their lowest level without expending a spell slot. On a 4, you may choose any parchment.
After doing this, you must select 2 cantrips from your personal spell list. Until your next long rest, you cannot cast these cantrips by any means.
Starting at 12th level, you can choose to write down 1 second level spell on any parchment instead of 2 first level spells.
The Wheel Of Fortune[edit]
Starting at 14th level, as an action, you can roll 4 D8’s, with each roll corresponding to one school of magic on the table below. Do not reroll duplicates.
Choose 1 spell of 7th level or lower with a casting time of 1 action or 1 bonus action - cast it at 7th level. The spell can come from any spell list, but must come from a school you rolled. Your cast ignores all material components.
After using this feature, you must finish a long rest before you do so again. Once you decide to roll for this feature, you cannot change your mind after seeing the results of the roll. You have to cast a spell you’re able to choose.

Director's Invocations[edit]
Upon choosing the subclass, you have access to the following Eldritch Invocations - exclusive to disciples of The Host.
