The First Dragon[edit]

Warlock Subclass

Your patron is one of the first fearsome, powerful, and ancient dragons. Known for their cunning and greed or intelligence and bravery, the nature of your patron depends on which type of dragon you bound yourself to. A metallic patron might want you to protect the innocent or uphold the virtues they hold dear. While a chromatic may command you to gather riches to increase their hoard or you may just be a pawn in their schemes for destruction and domination. Whether through actions or deeds, this Ancient Dragon has seemed you to be worthy of its powerful gifts. Whether through actions or deeds, this Ancient Dragon has deemed you to be worthy of its powerful gifts.

Expanded Spell List[edit]

The First Dragon Patron lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

2nd enhance ability, enlarge/reduce
3rd incite greed, protection from energy
4th freedom of movement, polymorph
5th control winds, summon draconic spirit
Emissary of Dragons

At 1st level, you choose one type of dragon associated with your patron. The damage type associated with each dragon is used by features you gain later.

Draconic Type Damage Type
Gold, Brass, Red Fire
Blue, Bronze Lightning
Black, Copper Acid
White, Silver Cold
Green Poison
Amethyst Force
Crystal Radiant
Emerald Pychic
Sapphire Thunder
Topaz Necrotic

In making the pact with your dragon patron, you learned how to communicate with them. You learn to speak, read, and write draconic if you can't already.

You also become proficient in your choice of two of the following skills: Arcana, Intimidation, or Persuasion. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses that skills.

Draconic Blast

Beginning at 1st level you gain the ability to unleash blasts of primal draconic energy from your hands or mouth. You can unleash this power in a 15 foot cone or 30 foot long, 5 foot wide line. Invocations that apply to eldritch blast also apply to Draconic Blast (Eldritch Spear instead doubles the range).

When you use your Draconic Blast, all creatures in the area must make a dexterity saving throw, or take 1d10 damage, the type of which is determined by your Draconic Type. This feature's damage increases by 1d10 when you reach 5th level, 11th level, and 17th level in Warlock. When you use this feature, you can expend a Pact Magic Spell Slot to empower the Draconic Blast, dealing an additional 1d10 per level of the Pact Magic Spell Slot expended. When empowered, it deals half damage to creatures that pass the saving throw against it.

Draconic Sight

Starting at 6th level, your patron bestows upon you a fraction of their draconic senses. You gain 10 feet of blindsight and 60 feet of darkvision. If you already have darkvision, you instead increase your range by 30 feet.

Essence of the Dragon Hoard

Starting at 10th level, you gain resistance to the damage type associated with your draconic patron. Additionally for every 100 gold pieces in your possession, you gain 1 temporary hit point, up to a maximum of your warlock level.

Draconic Apotheosis

Starting at 14th level, as an action you can manifest your patron in a physical form. For the next 1 minute; you grow mighty horn, thick scales, powerful wings, wicked claws, sharp fangs, lashing tail, and glowing eyes. The instant you transform, other creatures of your choice within 60 feet of you must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or become frightened of you for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns or when damaged, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s saving is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to your Draconic Presence for the next 24 hours. While in this form you gain the following benefits:

  • You grow one size larger. Any gear you cannot use as a Draconic creature merges with your new form is unavailable until the transformation ends.
  • When you attack with your natural weapons, you can use your Charisma modifier, instead of Strength or Dexterity, for the attack and damage rolls.
  • Your scales provide a base AC of 17 + Dexterity Modifier
  • Your Fangs and Tail that serve as natural weapons deal 1d10 piercing and bludgeoning damage respectively on hit. Your claws deal 1d6 slashing damage on hit. If you attack with any natural weapon, you can attack with your claws as a bonus action.
  • The damage of your Draconic Blast increases by 1 Die.
  • You have a flight speed of 40 feet.
  • you gain immunity to the damage type associated with your Draconic Patron.

Once you use this feature, you many not use it again until you complete a long rest.
