The Box (5e Subclass)

The Box[edit]
Artist: Me |
Warlock Subclass
Boxes are one of the most powerful forces in the universe, for they can be used to hold anything. Those who are able to contact one of these Boxes and gain their power are lent the power of infinite possibility. Those who are fortunate enough to be gifted it typically pay a hefty price, usually in losing the most precious thing they have. This can be anything from their most valued jewelry, to their greatest sword, or even their first-born child.
Being with the power of the box, you may notice your character gathering creeping thoughts in their mind. Many "what if"s and "could i"s popping into your character's mind, even acting on some risks that pop up. Notable examples of Box patrons include Boxidon, All-Mighty Giver of Containers; UPS, or the Unlimited Potential Service; or Faryul Jacksben, the Great Gifter.
Expanded Spell List[edit]
The Box allows you to choose from a larger variety of spells when you learn a Warlock spell. The following spells are added to your warlock Spell List.
Spell Level | Spells |
---|---|
1st | chaos bolt, silent image |
2nd | enhance ability, immovable object |
3rd | glyph of warding, Leomund's tiny hut |
4th | death ward, fabricate |
5th | animate objects, awaken |
Box of Mystery[edit]
At 1st level, you gain the ability to use a Cardboard Box as an arcane focus. As well, while using a Cardboard Box as a focus, you can use an action to roll on the Sorcerer's Wild Magic table. You must have an empty hand to do this. The listed effect happens, as you reach your hand into the box and pull out said effect. You may do this an amount of times equal to half your warlock levels, rounded up. You regain all uses at the end of a long rest.
Power of Preparation[edit]
Also at 1st level, you can, during a short or long rest, pick one spell with the Ritual tag you know. You spend an amount of time equal to preparing the spell as a Ritual during the short or long rest. At any time between rests, you may cast the spell without using a spell slot. If you do not use the prepared ritual spell, you lose the prepared Ritual. You may only prepare one Ritual spell in this fashion.
Cardboard Manifestation[edit]
At 6th level, you grow closer to Boxes as a whole. Once per long rest, you can summon a Large cardboard wall within 10 feet of you. The wall is 10 feet long and tall, and 5 feet wide. The wall has 30 hit points, 13 AC, and automatically fails any saving throws. It has a vulnerability to fire damage. This wall provides total cover for anyone behind it.
Convincing Disguise[edit]
When you reach 10th level, you can choose to Hide inside a Cardboard Box which is the same size as you. Instead of hiding normally, it acts as if you are under the guise of Invisibility, which doesn't need to maintain concentration. You aren't considered Invisible if you are seen moving in the box by a creature, or if a creature succeeds a Perception check against your Spell Save DC. In addition, you may choose to cast disguise self at will, wearing a smaller cardboard box on your face as a disguise.
Needle in a Haystack[edit]
Reaching 14th level, your power of chaos has become so finely tuned that randomness can be selected. When you use your Box of Mystery feature, you can instead spend two uses of it to roll three times on the Wild Magic table. Afterwards, you can select which effect you have rolled occurs.
Additionally, you regain all uses of your Box of Mystery ability at the end of a short rest.
