The Arboreal (5e Subclass)
The Arboreal[edit]
Warlock Subclass
Your patron is a primordial guardian of nature, older than the eldest of men and beasts. Your patron might be an ancient treant or a shambling mound that has gained sentience, and these entities often align themselves with the fey.
You feel the influence of your patron most strongly in untouched wilderness and are driven to protect those places. You may even have first encountered your patron in such a place. At your option, you can pick from or roll on the Arboreal's Mark table to create a mark for your character.
- Arboreal's Mark
d6 | Mark |
---|---|
1 | One or more small branches emerge from your body. |
2 | Your hair is tangled with vines. |
3 | Whenever you cast a spell, leaves swirl around you. |
4 | Flowers bloom at your touch. |
5 | You're unusually tall, and your skin is rough and woody. |
6 | Your eyes resemble those of an animal. |
- Expanded Spell List
The Arboreal lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.
Spell Level | Spells |
---|---|
1st | absorb elements, chromatic orb |
2nd | barkskin, spike growth |
3rd | elemental weapon, haste |
4th | guardian of nature, locate creature |
5th | tree stride, circle of power |
- Barkskin
At 1st level, you gain the defensive fortitude of the primordial plants. While you are wearing no armor and not wielding a shield, your AC equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Constitution modifier.
- Primordial Clouds
At 6th level, you can summon the rolling mists of ancient times. As an action, you can create the effects of the fog cloud spell. This does not require verbal or somatic components and does not require concentration. You can use an action to negate the fog. You can't use this feature again until the previous cloud has gone.
- Arboreal Might
At 10th level, your flesh harbours the strength of the primordial plants. You gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from nonmagical attacks that aren't adamantine.
In addition, critical hits against you are treated as normal hits.
- Sunlight Superiority
At 14th level you can harness the power of the sun as the plants do. While in direct sunlight you have advantage on all saving throws.
